The White House continued to push Sunday for Congress to let the Bush tax cuts expire for the wealthiest Americans, teeing up a lame-duck standoff over the issue in Washington once lawmakers return from the campaign trail.
David Axelrod, the president's senior adviser, said Sunday that the Obama administration still wants the tax cuts extended for middle-class families making up to $250,000.
"That would be stimulative, because people who need money in their pocket to spend and pay for the things that they need to live would have more money in their pocket," Axelrod said in an interview.
But he continued to argue that extending the cuts for everybody, including the upper-income brackets, would not be worth the cost and would not stimulate the economy.
"The notion that we borrow $700 billion for the next ten years from China or some other country in order to pay for tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires doesn't make sense. This is part of how we got in trouble in the first place," Axelrod said on CNN's "State of the Union."
The White House persistently accuses Republicans of holding the middle class "hostage" by insisting on an across-the-board extension.

...”The tax and spend Democrats continuously implement failed policies. They clearly have disordered minds”...
There are only two ways to gain in this world..#1 is to be lucky enough to live in a free nation where you can use the tremendous opportunities available to work hard, to take risks with your resources and your ideas, and to choose the lifestyle you are willing to sacrifice for. #2 is to try to game the system and to steal as much as you can from others who have worked, risked and sacrificed. If too many people choose #2, your country goes down or if your government begins to take away freedom and begins to tax or inflate your wealth away to give to themselves and their cronies, you also go down. Economics and job opportunities are what the upcoming election is about. People are beginning to realize that the GOLDEN GOOSE is not corrupt government but it is, indeed, the small businessman/woman who creates those jobs all of us want. People who depend on government for survival will NEVER be secure. Security lies within the people, not government. Those who vote for leftists know not what they do.
Investment builds a bigger pie; consumer spending stimulation causes faster turnover of the existing pie. It's just another manifestation of long-term versus short-term thinking. The Dems, and particularly this set of Dems, are enamored of short-term solutions at the expense of the future.
Capitalism: Unequal distribution of wealth.
Socialism: Equal distribution of misery.
There, fixed it for ya Axlerod, you turd.
Only spend on the things “necessary” to survive, that is certainly stimulative
However if you own or work in as “luxury” business, like a restaurant or car dealership, buh bye
Let’s have Meathead Axelrod run down a list of “luxuries” purchased by “the rich” on which spending would not stimulate or create jobs. How about if we start with PR and political consultant firms like Meathead’s
Go on OFFENSE on the Tax Cuts for the rich question!
Dont accept the $4 Trillion impact! It is BOGUS!
The Tax Cuts for the rich work like all other tax cuts, they GENERATE REVENUE by expanding the business base.
The 2007 Federal Tax receipts set an ALL TIME RECORD, while the Bush tax cuts were in full force.
The threat of those tax cuts going away has constricted enterprise and CUT the Federal receipts!
The Federal budget is NOT a cherry pie, it is NOT a zero sum game.

this man is a robber
paganism? animism? "cosmic humanism"?
definitely NOT a Christian statement.
"spiritS" - plural. There only ONE Holy Spirit. Other spirit entities are demonic in nature.
That's $700 billion out of the total $3,700 billion cost for extending current tax rates.
So, the "rich" would only get 19% of the total "tax cut". However, these same "rich" pay approximately 44% of individual income taxes (in 2007). So, they wouldn't even be getting their "fair share" of the "tax cut".
I have to laugh because many of these 'new wealth' Democrats are now screaming about how unfair the high taxes are now that it has the potential to hit them.

What’s he going to do when they leave the country and take their money with them? Stupid POS.
When scum like Harry Reid and Charles Rangel come to Washington poor and leave multimillionaires, it is long past time to drain the swamp. I say lock them up and confiscate their stolen spoils.
Yes, they can’t grasp economics 101, since none of them ever held a productive job.
