French Fos-Lavera strike blocks 61 ships
2 hours 34 mins ago
A three-week old strike at the French oil hub of Fos-Lavera to protest pension reform and working conditions is blocking 61 ships from unloading cargo, the port authority said on Sunday.
The strikers want job guarantees as part of a port reform and are also protesting against President Nicolas Sarkozy's pension reforms that raise the retirement age to 62 from 60, which has already sparked several waves of nationwide protests.
The strikes at Fos-Lavera, France's largest oil port, has helped squeeze the nation's fuel supply, creating fears it could run short of both crude oil and refined products.
Of the ships unable to dock because of the strike, 29 carry crude oil and 18 refined oil products. Ten carry butane gas and 4 are loaded with chemicals.

Not guilty.
This is what happens when you try to roll back socialism
Cloward Piven. It is all by design.
And to think our grandfathers fought to free these people.
That is what FDR told us anyway.
My bet is that even the French recognize economic suicide when they see it.
The bus drivers tried that here and nobody cared. Perhaps SEIU can do a mass walkout and close down the Gummit permanently?
Pray for America
Socialism always fails, always.
Cancer don't back down either way.
Hang tough and they will beat themselves.
Let them continue their antics, locking up ports, highways, and railroads until supplies of food, petrroleum and necessities run out and garbage blocks the streets and doorways.
Let the economic machine grind to a halt until the profits and paychecks slow down and eventually stop.
Let them get dirty, hungry, broke and tired. Let the rest of society turn on them for their selfishness and the damage they are doing to everyone.
Do you REALLY believe it will be any better here in the US? Eventually we will have no roll back our socialism and will get the same results.
