My guess is militant homosexuals upset at the Church for recent statements calling sin a sin.

They could start their investigation right here at FR, based on some of the downright hateful posts here about Mormons.

My guess is that some high school kids were hiding behind the church, smoking cigarettes, and someone hastily discarded a lit butt which started a fire.

If they haven't done so in the past, Mormons need to prepare to defend themselves and to brace for more violent attacks. Ever since Proposition 8 was passed, there's been a faint odor of an impending anti-Mormon "Kristallnacht" in the air. Liberals are just waiting to pounce. Liberals very likely see Mormons as a relatively safe group to attack.
I told my good friend, who is a Mormon, this. He just smiled and said God would take care of him and his family. Now, I like and respect him, but I think he's a fool on this particular point.

Disgusting action, I hope the catch the “individual” regardless of motives and throw the book at him.
I may disagree with Mormonism as much as I do anything but defend to the death their right to practice and do so safely. Safe the fight for the arena of ideas.

That is a shame. I don’t agree with burning churches regardless of religion. I am assuming there are other ward buildings close by that can absorb the wards until the rebuild (with a modification of schedule of course so the ward is not affected).

The two-alarm fire, first reported shortly before 3 a.m. Saturday, has left two Mormon congregations without a place to worship. About the article: I would like to say that I am apalled and saddened by this. I hope the perpetrators are caught and punished.
I would also like to suggest that the members of these two congregations would find open, welcoming arms at just about any Christian Church in the area. All they would have to do is walk in the door Sunday morning. After all, MORMONS ARE CHRISTIANS - right?
I am thinking of what would happen if this happened with my church. I actually worship and fellowship at two churches - a very large one with enormous resources and a much smaller, grittier, street-level one.
Either one would be shocked and hurt by their buildings burning down. Either one would join in prayer and lift it up to God, waiting to see how He would use it for His glory.
Either one would joyfully resume services in the parking lot, the rodeo grounds, the high school gym, or scattered into smaller groups among other churches of believers. Anywhere two or more are gathered.
And they would be reaching out and praising God - not considering taking up arms. Amen
