The bloodletting in Palm Beach is under way.
Earlier today, Palm Beach County Commissioners Burt Aaronson and Shelley Vana endorsed Gov. Charlie Crist for Senate, backing him over Democratic Congressman Kendrick Meek.
Then Vana went even further, asking Meek, who is mired in third place behind Crist and frontrunner Marco Rubio, to get out of the race.
I respectfully ask Congressman Meek whom I love to take one for the team, Vana told the Palm Beach Post. While we love Kendrick, at some point Kendrick has to know theres a greater good here.
Crist, who yesterday got the endorsement of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., wasted no time getting the word out. His campaign not only issued a press release I am honored by the courageous and generous support of Palm Beach County Commissioners Burt Aaronson and Shelley Vana it also sent, in a separate e-mail, phone numbers to contact the commissioners.
Dems loyal to Meek, a former state lawmaker, reacted angrily.
U.S. Rep. Alcee Hastings, D-Miramar, told the Post that defectors were sowing the seeds of destruction for the Democratic Party in South Florida. And Broward state Sen. Jeremy Ring told the Sun-Sentinel that Crist is the candidate who should get out.
One school of thought maintains that the the most critical thing now is defeating Rubio. And with Meek stuck at 22 percent in the polls, Crist, whos acceptable to many Dems, is the best hope for winning.
The competing line of thinking says Rubio will beat Crist or Meek. But jettisoning Meek could hurt Democrat Alex Sinks chances of becoming governor. The fear there is that if black voters believe Meek, and African-American, has been treated poorly, they might simply stay home, robbing Sink of a good chunk of the Democratic base.

Are they arguing over slim vs. none?
If I am a Democrat, I would be steaming mad if my own party pressured the ONLY DEM RUNNING to drop out, leaving me with (what I would see) as a choice between two Republicans.
There’s a gubernatorial race... a bunch of congressional races and other local and state offices. Meeks isn’t going to win, and Crist was the guy “my” party was running candidates against not so terribly long ago.
I would call my party an establishment sell-out, and I would be right.
It's scary when I find myself in complete agreement with a liberal democrat legislator.
Watch out, everybody...I smell another Toracelli/Laughtenburg scenario!
Hmmm, where have I heard that name before? Oh, I remember, the impeached and convicted judge that sold out to the mafia.
I guess the idiots in Miramar will keep voting his sorry a$$ into office.

This action just proves my theory. We've swallowed RINO's for years because "that's the best we can do." Let the Democrats try it now.
Well the left made their bed. A sizable group of liberals/ progressives support Crist because he has taken away all of the liberal votes from Meeks and is polling better. But the most partisan are pissed at how they are throwing the Democrat nominee overboard. So what Crist did was take away votes from Meeks. This only helps Rubio. Crist, figured he couldn’t beat Rubio or he just started working on taking vote away from Meeks.
Hehehehe, Rats trying to throw another Black under the bus. How many times have we seen this over the years?

Since Meek will be on the ballot no matter what, it would make sense for Rubio’s supporters (independent supporters, in this case), to remind Section 8 voters that Meek was thrown under the bus (if he withdraws) and that they should still vote for him, in order to “send a message” to the party that he EARNED his place on the ballot and should not be treated this way.
