REST IN PEACE, FALLEN BROTHER!

Sgt. Frank R. Zaehringer, USMC, 2nd Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, KIA Afghanistan 11OCT2010

I have fought a good fight,
I have finished my course,
I have kept the faith.
2 Timothy 4:7 (KJV)

Eternal Father, Strong to Save

Rest in Peace, fallen brother, rest in peace!
We who remain hold you in high honor.
Rest, fallen brother, in this sacred precinct;
We who remain keep this place sacred.
Rest, fallen brother, among these, your comrades;
We who remain keep the watch.
Rest, fallen brother, amid these who heeded the Nation’s call;
We who remain press the fight forward in your name.
Rest, fallen brother, lay down thy burden;
We who remain have taken up the torch.
Rest in Peace, fallen brother, rest in eternal peace!

From: 1st. Sgt. Dennis _________, USMC
Subject: Fallen Hero

Fellow Marines, Friends, & Family,

Wanted to tell you all about a true American hero that I am very proud of. Weapons Company
lost its first Marine this past Monday, 11 October at 1218 local time.

Sergeant Frank R. Zaehringer III, 23 years old from Reno NV, was one of my squad leaders for
my Combined Anti-Armor Platoon. He was killed in action against the enemy by an
improvised explosive device while leading his Marines on a dismounted (foot) patrol. In
true Marine NCO fashion, he was leading from the front, which ultimately saved the lives
of 4 other Marines, as he was positioned between them and the device.

He was well known and deeply respected by not just Weapons Company, but the whole
Battalion. Sgt Zaehringer was a meritorious corporal and sergeant, and one of the best
noncommissioned officers I have ever served with. He had just reenlisted and had orders
to Camp Pendleton, CA for another tour in an infantry battalion after we returned from
our tour here in Marjah.

He leaves behind a wife, 2 young step daughters, and his parents.

His death has hit my Marines and Corpsmen hard, but has also steeled their resolve in our fight
against a ruthless enemy.

They say a man dies 2 deaths; the first when he passes from this mortal world into eternity, and
the second when we stop saying his name. Please help the Marines and Corpsmen of
Weapons Company, 2d Battalion, 9th Marines ensure that the name Sergeant Frank Riddell Zaehringer III is never forgotten.

Semper Fidelis,

Dennis
