Komen for the Cure Donated $7.5M to Planned Parenthood Abortion Biz in 2009

Washington, DC -- October is the month for breast cancer awareness, but it's difficult for pro-life advocates to lend their support to one of the primary organizations involved in the fight against breast cancer because it has provided contributions to the Planned parenthood abortion business.

Difficult? I would say impossible, if you are really pro-life.

For one thing, Planned Parenthood is responsible for giving a lot of women breast cancer, and for helping to cover up the dangers of certain contraceptives that lead to breast cancer.

So, how does that compute? Give money to fight breast cancer, and have it used to produce more breast cancer?

When will conservatives wake up? This has been going on for a long time. I donate nothing to the pink and the runs.

This takes you to the Komen site where there are several links justifying their support of PP. One of the links is an article by two Catholic ethicists supporting Komen, even though they donate to baby killers. Before I get flamed on their legitimacy, my bishop claims that their explanation is relevant.

This Komen thing is fast supplanting The United Way as my least favorite charity.

United Way isn't too big at where I currently work.

However, I bet that I get harangued by shills for this Komen charity 3-4 times a week.

Lots of "My mother/sister/friend/etc died of Breast Cancer so I would like you to honor her memory by....." sob stories.

While terrible, I just don't have enough sympathy to go around for dozens of people that I never met, who are related to people that I just work with. Never mind the incessant begging for cash, that I don't have.

Hopefully, it's a fad charity that will pass.

You'd think that these charities might actually use that money for something like, oh I don't know, finding a cure, not passing money off to other organizations.

Is there any organized part of this society that isn't corrupt in one way or another.

I find it interesting that this past week or so the NFL has been highlighting Breast Cancer Month by wearing pink shoes, using pink towels, wearing jersey’s with pink edging.... so instead of donating the money to Komen, it was spent on shoes, jerseys, towels. Free Enterprise at it’s finest, which is great, but sort of a waste regarding the charity, right? Advertising is one thing but wouldn’t the cash have been better spent on research?

My wife (a breast cancer survivor) has nothing to do with the whole Komen/pink thing. When we check out at the supermarket during “pink month”, the checkers ask if we want to donate anything. My wife usually says “no, I’ve already donated two breasts”.

I would be very interested to know how the question was phrased. I can’t imagine that the same Bishop that stated this...

“Bishop Daniel Conlon, Steubenville, member of the Marriage and Family Life subcommittee: Regardless of any particular legislation either at the federal level or the state level, my guess is that the change of administration will lead some people to think that there should be a cessation in efforts to halt abortions or the war on abortion that we are so committed to. There will be calls for a truce, it you will. I think people need to understand that we are dealing here with an absolute, that there is nothing here that will allow for compromise. Cardinal George, in your initial comments, in your Presidential address, you made a poignant connection between slavery and abortion. Slavery was an issue that divided this country substantially for a very long time. In fact, the adoption of a Constitution that brought the country into existence almost did not happen because of slavery, and the issue was put off. It was put off until the point that a civil war came into being and, which again, almost destroyed the union, and resulted in the loss of tremendous life. It was very violent, and very divisive and very painful. But it was a matter of an absolute: you either had slavery or you didn’t have slavery. And so it is with abortion. And I think with this particular point your statement needs to make it clear that this is not a matter of political compromise, it’s not a matter of finding some way of common ground. It is a matter of an absolute moral issue of a human being whose life cannot be compromised, but must be protected. “

....would be open to Komen. Perhaps this information had not yet come to light.

That bit of news is simply mind boggling and...if true..it ends any donations for me becauase I want babies to live. I also want Breast cancer to be a thing of the past but I cannot give money to an organization that condones abortion.

Buy PINK and give your money to Breast Cancer "Awareness."

How many people actually think that when they give to Komen they must be supporting breast cancer research?

Should I have phrased it as a true or false question? Multiple choice perhaps? Bishop Conlon supports what the ethicists say. This fits in well with his homily theme. The ethicists claim donating to PP is okay because the money just goes to help underprivileged women get mammograms and breast cancer support. I don't need an ethicist or a Bishop to see through this scam. Money is just shuffled from somewhere else to fill the void in the infanticide coffers. Bishop Conlon believes that universal health care is a basic human right. He also believes that our immigration laws are unfair and insists that we pray for a “change of heart” for our lawmakers. My “how to vote” bulletin insert is in my car, or I would quote some lines from that for you.

Also, he did not sign the anti-obama at Notre Dame petition.

I read the letter on Planned Parenthood support. So some ethicist said it’s okay to give in spite of this because of all the other good they do. So if they gave millions to the Klan, or those who would cure homosexuality, or support Israel, or protect Muslims who convert to Christianity would the answer be the same? Hard to believe that would be the case.
