"Didn't handle the change correctly." A statement for a generation. Change, hope.

Other than marketing wonks, who gets wee-wee’d upped about logos?

Like just about anything else, marketing-related, this is best handled by the old axiom:
Stop. Changing. Stuff.

People with short attention spans? Last year, I was in Boston. I heard two college kids talking. One looked at an ad that was placed on a moving trolley. She said “That sign has too many words in it, like, who's gonna read all that?” Her companion said “Words are so like yesterday.” I kid you not.

Free publicity, lots of buzz for a stale label. Hmmmm. I’d like to know how much they spent getting new shopping bags printed up, if anything.

Gee I wish my life was so simple that I'd have the time give a flying rat turd about the Gap's logo (or anybody's logo for that matter).
The phrase, “Get a Life” seems perfectly appropriate here.

The targeted market of marketing wonks.

Other than marketing wonks, who gets wee-weed upped about logos? Executives. When they aren't eliminating jobs and screwing customers, it's all they have to do.

I completely agree. Not only does it piss people off and confuse others, it's a damn waste of time and resources. Here's a few examples that others could learn from:

You might have said to her: “I agree. Please be quiet.”

Reminds a bit of the New Coke Campaign over 20 years ago. But that was a product change and went over like a Led Zepplin.

Executives. When they aren't eliminating jobs and screwing customers, it's all they have to do. Every once in a while they get to go in front of a bunch of people and say EBITDA a few times. Other than that, they hide in the executive wing with the lawyers and the accountants.

It was the same day I heard two other college kids discussing if Thanksgiving fell on Thursday or Friday that week. No, really.
