Wyoming’s Washington delegation is concerned about the proposed transfer of three Powder River Basin uranium facilities into the hands of a Russian company.

The Powder River Basin uranium facilities have been pulled into the Iran nuclear debate on Capitol Hill with a deal that would transfer the controlling interest of Canadian-owned Uranium One to the Russian company JSC Atomredmetzoloto. The company now owns 23.1 percent of Uranium One’s common stock and is seeking a controlling 51 percent share.

Commonly known as ARMZ, the company is controlled by Russia’s state agency that oversees its nuclear industry. The agency has supplied uranium to Iran.

Vladimir Averchev, a member of Russia’s Foreign and Defense Policy Council...“If the deal goes ahead, the Russian company will get a majority stake in the U.S.’s largest uranium pit and obtain a license for one-fifth of the uranium produced in the U.S.,”

So we’ve already reduced our nuclear warheads from 22,000 to about 5,100... With the intention of reducing it by another 40% down to about 3,000 warheads

And now they are working to undermine our ability to build more?

Yeah.. This is in Americas best interest

(I’m trying to figure out how this isn’t treasonous or at the very least, a major strategic issue)

Yes, this seems silly - why not sell it to them at a nice high price? They already have plenty of processed and ready to go devices, what’s to be gained by not selling it to them.

Now if we suspect that they are reselling it to Iran, North Korea, or some other want-a-be country, then no... Of course that is a question that still rings true...so maybe not...

I think Kruschev mentioned that we’d sell them the rope, but this translates to the same effect....

Russia will get its uranium from other free world sources according to this recent news:

Australia Will Allow Exports of Uranium to Russia

http://www.businessweek.com/news/2010-04-23/australia-will-allow-exports-of-uranium-to-russia-update2-.html

They are going to get it one way or another, but I would still like it if we didn’t make it any easier for them. Apparently the deal has to have US government approval, which I hope is denied.

Well, if we don’t keep selling off America, how will we pay for all the cheap trinkets?

They should have to account for it all in globally inspected power plants, but as usual everyone will get lazy.
