How Is It 'News' for Time to Hype 'Extreme Militias' In the Last Weeks of a Campaign?

Time magazine's news judgment is truly puzzling. With just weeks to go before a crucial midterm election, their cover story package is ten pages stuffed with “The Secret World of Extreme Militias.” Voters are poised to sweep a pile of Democrats out of office from coast to coast, and they're camped in Zanesville, Ohio with a right-wing militia that claims 300 members as the nation's number one news story? (Katie Couric tweeted on Wednesday that she was eagerly reading it.)

Time editor Richard Stengel announced they gave new hire Barton Gellman six months in the field chasing the whisper of a possibility that some new Timothy McVeigh might emerge and vindicate this bizarre investment of effort. Just weeks after they asked on the cover if America was Islamophobic, it's clear that once again, Obama's sinking popularity reveals an ugly America that can't accept the gift they elected.

While Gellman opened with the usual hackneyed portrait of a Midwestern militia on wacky military exercises against an undefined enemy, it's clear that their deep anxiety over Obama is the main thread. A militia resurgence “now is widely seen among government and academic experts as a reaction to the tectonic shifts in American politics that allowed a black man with a foreign-sounding name and a Muslim-born father to reach the White House.”

If this all sounds like rehashed talking points from the left-wing Southern Poverty Law Center, you would be correct. “Obama's ascendancy unhinged the radical right, offering a unified target to competing camps of racial, nativist, and religious animus,” Gellman insisted.

Time magazine hasn't been a news publication for decades.

Time Magazine, the people who downplay the threat of global Militant Islam.

Time Magazine, the people who gave a Man Of The Year award to Adolph Hitler.

Time-Lies. Boycott Time-Warner-CNN.

The real militias in this country, in terms of organization and manpower, are the gangs. The Muzzies are building some rural no-go private training grounds, too. They’ve got devotion and gang mentality, but fortunately, there aren’t all that many of them... yet.

Patriotic militias seem to be few and far between, well monitored, and mostly staffed by the middle aged. But, that’s what the MSM talks about and Napolitanos DHS seems to focus on.

How is it militant and extreme to prefer french kissing a pig to voting for Obama or anybody on the same ticket?

Hey, it worked for Clinton in ‘96.

Why would anyone expect a leftist propaganda outlet to publish news?

Not saying it didn’t hurt, but I’m pretty sure running Bob Dole helped Clinton in ‘96.

In the 60s when I was an impressionable teen, a wise uncle told me “don’t even believe the page numbers in Time magazine”.

Of course back then it had quite a wide distribution and some credibility. Nowadays it’s nearly invisible. I bet if you surveyed college & hs students, less than 5% would have ever read Time.

Since about 1993 ~ that’s when they started covering up Bill Clinton’s stuff ~ and they just never recovered.

Not to worry, Time’s readership is sitting in a dentist office somewhere. Do you think they are worried about extreme terrorists or the dentist?

Time staffers probably sit around singing “OHIO” ... each of them waiting for young “sixties-type” hippie chicks to run to them for safety. Sad thing is the left - including the MSM ARE the Establishment. And they’re just as offensive as the one they fought 50 years ago... the one they think still exists.

Yeah, somehow Time missed the Clinton rape story... guess their hatred of the right blinded them - forever...

0bama and his surrogates are just going around attacking everyone. This is not a disciplined, focused Leftist attack as advocated by Alinsky and brilliantly executed by the Leftist, socialist heroes-Mao, Stalin and Hitler. These leaders were careful to confine their attacks to specific, vulnerable and easily identified groups while promoting their fanatical supporters as models of virtue.
0bama is showing that he is incompetent at becoming the socialist dictator he so ardently desires. This does not mean that we are out of danger yet. He may be even more dangerous for a time as he increasingly becomes unhinged.

They tried it years ago, and it didn’t work, but they’re so desperate they’re trying it again, just like they’re trying to smear the Chamber of Commerce as a nest of foriegn spies. That’s a Stalinist line.

And somewhere in the story they will try to tie in the tea party movement.

Time’s October surprise.

I have not seen nor heard of any such group since I was living in rural Michigan and a group of locals got together for a Blue Helmet Shoot and Hog Roast one summer day in 1994...
