DENVER (AP) -- The Justice Department is battling to save a federal law that makes it illegal to lie about being a war hero, appealing two court rulings that the statute is an unconstitutional muzzle on free speech.
The fight could be carried all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court...

If Westboro wins, I see Stolen Valor being overturned too.
how is this not committing fraud?
Just an FYI, B. G. Burkett’s book, STOLEN VALOR, is probably the most fascinating “read”, and also one of the most important books, of the decade.
If you don’t know what is in this book, you are in for a SERIOUS treat... And perhaps a life-changing awakening.
Buy at least one copy today. I have recommended this book to all of my friends and family and have purchased at least 20 copies to give as gifts.
No I am not the author, or the coauthor, or in any way profited nor stand to profit from the writing, publication, distribution, or sale of this book.
Just READ IT.
I agree, there are all kinds of things you can’t say, or if you say it you are constituting fraud. You can’t tell people you’re a police officer if you’re not.
Yeah, the Just Us Department, “battling”.
The irony of this is that their argument before the SCOTUS would be, “Yeah, whatever”, and the SCOTUS would likely still uphold the law.
And *then*, Obama would take credit for it, claiming that this showed that “veterans support me.”
You can’t lie about being a cop. Or a federal agent. So why can you lie about this?
RAT politicians will not allow phony heroes to be exposed. They’d lose half their candidates.
I cannot understand how any court could say that fraud is a constitutionally protected right.
In Oregon, it’s illegal to claim to be a doctor or engineer. Same concept.
