That's true. The legal term for that is "Illegal Presence." It is not a felony or even a misdemeanor so a person cannot by tried, convicted and jailed for being here without authorization from immigration authorities. It is, however, a violation of civil immigration laws, for which the federal government can impose civil penalties, namely deportation. The act of entering the country illegally is a violation of Title 8, Chapter 12, Subchapter II, Part VIII, § 1325 and is known as "Improper Entry by an Alien." That can lead to criminal charges and jail time; six months for the first offense and 18 months for subsequent offenses. Plus a fine.
What you are taking Christie to task for is being concise. Not twisting or distorting or out-and-out lying about something in order to fit an agenda, as Lost Causers do. Nothing in his statement is wrong, or can be taken to mean he's pro-illegal immigration. Except by people like you that is.

The years 1961-1965 will mark the one hundredth anniversary of the American Civil War.
The war was America’s most tragic experience. But like all truly great tragedies, it carries with it an enduring lesson and a profound inspiration. It was a demonstration of heroism and sacrifice by men and women of both sides, who valued principles above life itself and whose devotion to duty is a proud part of our national inheritance.
Both sections of our magnificently reunited country sent into their armies men who become soldiers as good as any who ever fought under any flag. Military history records nothing finer than the courage and spirit displayed at such battles as Chickamauga, Antietam, Kennesaw Mountain and Gettysburg. That America could produce men so valiant and so enduring is a matter for deep and abiding pride.
The same spirit on the part of the people back home supported those soldiers through four years of great trail. That a Nation which contained hardly more than 30 million people, North and South together, could sustain 600,000 deaths without faltering is a lasting testimonial to something unconquerable in the American spirit. And that a transcending sense of unity and larger common purpose could, in the end, cause the men and women who had suffered so greatly to close ranks once the contest ended and to go on together to build a greater, freer and happier America must be a source of inspiration as long as our country may last.
By a joint resolution approved on September 7, 1957, the Congress established the Civil War Centennial Commission to coordinate the nationwide observances of the one hundredth anniversary of the Civil War. This resolution authorized and requested the President to issue proclamations inviting the people of the United States to participate in those observances.
NOW THEREFORE, I , DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER, President of the United States of America, do hereby invite all of the people of our country to take direct and active part in the Centennial of the Civil War.
I request all units and agencies of government, Federal, State and local, and their officials, to encourage, foster and participate in Centennial observances. And I especially urge our Nations schools and colleges, it’s libraries and museums, its churches and religious bodies, its civic, service and patriotic organizations, its learned and professional societies, its arts, sciences and industries, and its informational media, to plan and carry out their own appropriate Centennial observances during the years 1961 to 1965; all to the end of enriching our knowledge and appreciation of this great chapter in our Nation’s history and of making this memorial period truly a Centennial for all Americans.

Are you? You took him to task for a comment he made - a correct comment he made - and through your ignorance stumbled to the conclusion that he was soft on illegals.
I have standards, apparently you don't. You are RINO can't you see that? Get it?
Southern standards of conservatives. Southerners became Republicans when they discovered that they could do so and still keep their big government, big spending ways. Y'all are social conservatives alone, not social and political conservatives.
Christie is weak on immigration everyone knows it but you. My fellow Southerners have had enough. A Northern RINO is not gonna cut it.
So which Southern RINO are you going to try and foist on the rest of us?
What, pray tell, did I say that was so appalling? I stated I have a hard time honoring a man who led a group that started a war against the United States.
Did or did not the South attack US troops at Fort Sumter? Did or did not Robert E. Lee lead the Confederate army? Did or did not Robert E. Lee's Confederate Army fight against the United States?
Now, after answering these questions, is my "appalling" grasp of history correct or incorrect?
Regardless of the great deeds he did, or how our armed forces choose to recognize him, or what's named after him, it doesn't take away the fact that he led a group of armed forces against the United States of America. Therefore, I choose not to honor him. Everybody else can honor him, or Benedict Arnold as they please. They are also free to support the South, which was run by democrats, who faught to keep slavery, and after the war had ended, faught to keep blacks from being citizens. Said Democrats who ran the South started the Klan. Said Democrats fought to keep blacks from having the right to vote. But yeah, everyone has the right to defend the Democrats of the South during the 1860s and beyond.
You can continue to make personal attacks, but I will stick to the facts regarding General Lee, and debate on said facts.

There's quite a difference between jumping on somebody and jumping into a discussion.
You know what I think? Lincoln AKA the Illinois Butcher™, was the worst thing that ever happened to this country and is responsible for 600000 deaths, needlessly.
I guess Licoln flew down to Sumter and sprinkled "attack the US and start a war" dust all over the Confederates.
State's right to do what?
Wiemar Germany had the same issue dealing with its traitors after the Beerhall Putsch as we did after the Civil War.
But that said, at least Lee and Davis and the rest actually DID something about it. They lost, but at least they took a shot at it. I can respect that even if they were fighting for a cause that would maintain keeping their fellow man in bondage.
They would be completely embarrassed by the antics of some wannabe Confederates on here.
