I am related to Robert E Lee on the Salter side of the family. When I was in school we were taught that he was a great man and it was Abraham Lincoln who was the first president to abrogate states rights. I am a Daughter of the Confederacy and a Daughter of the Republic of Texas. Robert E Lee was a defender of states rights. People seem to forget that the War of Northern Aggression was not so much about slavery as it was states rights.
