WESTBURY, N.Y. — Police say a man carrying a hunting knife crept up behind an 8-year-old boy playing a video game in a New York restaurant and plunged a 4-inch blade into his back five times.

Police say Evan Sachs picked the boy out at random and stabbed him five times in the back Friday night at a Dave and Buster's in Westbury on Long Island.

That’s horrible. I know who to pray for tonight, though. It is good to know that the boy is in stable condition, at least.

Is it my imagination or is evil running rampant under Obama?

“Wasn’t me. Seriously. I wouldn’t be caught dead in a Dave & Buster’s.”

Way too many nutcases running loose.

States and the Feds will spend a fortune on fattening their bureaucrats, but nothing on residential mental health care.

The boy’s father and a bystander grabbed the suspect and held him. The father got control over him and he’s still alive?

Prosecutor: Attacker planned restaurant stabbing [photo of this despicable monster at link] I don't know how such a small child survives being stabbed five times. . .FIVE TIMES!! by a huge insane imbecile . . .but thank God this child is going to be physically ok. What I don't understand is how can any witness permit this monster to live long enough to be arrested. This took place in a restaurant . . .plenty of restaurant equipment, cutlery, furniture, arcade assets can be used to subdue the stabber and 'accidentally' bring his demise.

This is what can happen as a result of closing mental institutions. In the NY area, most of the larger mental institutions were downsized and many of the patients allowed to go freely about. They have not only ended up homeless, sickly, or drug and alcohol addled, but some are violent and irrational and are apt to do awful things like what happened in Westbury. It is time to reevaluate the mental health system and make immediate changes.

The father got control over him and he’s still alive?

We're talking New York here. The deranged madman will still probably turn around and sue the dad for a pulled muscle.......and win.

The 23-year-old Merrick man has also been placed on suicide watch.

Well, I don't think I would want to watch. Give the guy some privacy.

I think in situations like this (especially those resulting in death), the families and/or loved ones should decide what the proper punishment should be. Whatever suits their fancy - literally.

That's only fair, in my opinion, but the perps will never really know what consequences they might ultimately be facing should they do the deed.

Hope the kid is alright. Maybe this nutjob was inspired by the 10;10 video—the kid clearly had a high carbon footprint. Wish I could call this one a [/s], but now-a-days who knows.

Nutcases? Surely you’re not going to try to put the blame on the poor guy who did this, when there are mean and utterly unnecessary knives permeating our society.

Agreed. I worked with a private charity in NYC that dealt with many mentally ill persons at that time. The Upstate mental hospitals were not only improving but some of them had excellent programs.

Then came the weird budget cuts, where they dumped care for the genuinely helpless and gave it to the genuinely lazy, including civil servants.

Our people went from decent treatment on beautiful campuses to unheated garages run by unscrupulous old ladies as “half way houses” to full blown “community mental health care” - meaning living in a doorway or on a subway platform.

Giuliani got a lot of these people out of the subways and public spaces simply by making it unpleasant to live there and forcing them further away, but to this day nobody has dealt with the mental health issues.

Remember Willowbrook?

Geraldo first burst on the national scene with his Willowbrook espose. People were horrified at the conditions. One result- asylums were closed and the mentally ill turned out on the street to be homeless among us.
