Every October, stores become a sea of pink as shelves fill with products adorned with pink ribbons or repackaged in pink as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It's all seen as a feel-good win-win: Consumers get the products they want while helping out a great cause. What could be wrong?
Lots, say groups and breast cancer patients who are sick of companies trying to push shoppers into thinking that pink candies, pink toasters and pink spatulas will make a dent in curing cancer.
It's bad enough, they say, that corporations are profiting off the pink ribbon and the disease that left them feeling anything but pink. It's worse when those companies "pinkwash": hitching a ride on the pink ribbon bandwagon to sell products actually linked to cancer.

Yep!
I had Squamous cell carcinoma 4 years ago, without any lifestyle or hereditary risks.
I’m just criticizing the studies.
Ever since the connections between Komen and Planned Barrenhood were revealed, I have refused to give to any of these campaigns.
This reminds me of the AIDS red ribbon campaign of the early 90s. It was like AIDS was the only fatal disease ever born. When people stopped paying attention to AIDS, then the campaign was changed to pediatric AIDS.
My godmother died of breast cancer in the late 70s. I don’t think she even reached 60 years of age. My cousin died a few years ago of bc and she was in her 40s. I realize how serious it is, but I fear all cancers, not just breast cancer.
I couldn’t figure out what that pink crap on the NFL players was. At first I thought it was blood. It should have been blood, better than forcing them to wear pink.
What a farce.

Hilarious — but annoying that breast cancer(s) get the pink shades pretty much to themselves. There are not enough colors to go around.
How about adding:
Purple: SEIU derangement syndrome
Blue: Blue State insanity disease
RE: “I didnt say breast cancer didnt exist before BCPs!
Look at the rate of increase 20 years after the introduction of BCPs!!!
The slope starting in 1980 is remarkable!”

Had an exam recently myself — questionnaire asked the usual questions about BC family history and such. But I noted they asked about HRT use, and age at first menses as well as number of children, if any, and patient’s age at time of their birth.
Who knows the reasons this appears so epidemic but so much of it is obviously hormonally related. No doubt some is environmental, too.
People hate to hear my anecdotal story about my female relatives but here it is again: My grandmother and four daughters (my mother was one of them) all died of heart disease at 80+. Heart disease kills 5-6 times more women than does breast cancer, by the way.
None, except the youngest daughter, ever had a mammogram. The youngest one, over eighty now and in an Alzheimer’s facility for many years, DID have regular mammograms over time and developed breast cancer at about age 65. Go figure, eh?
I have just read that mammography now as opposed to about 20 years ago has changed dramatically, eliminating by about 5 times the amount of radiation delivered during the exam.
We are all cautioned not to get too many other types of scans due to radiation, but mammography is strongly recommended every single year for all women over 40. Hmmm. That’s a LOT of mammography. Just sayin’ .....
Get all the unfermented Soy out of the food supply.

Sounds like the plan is working.

Even Napa is into it for Komen foundation

If I have to go to a website to find this out, that sort of proves the point.
The pinkness has become way too intrusive, to the point of cheapening the cause and subjecting it to a backlash.
my mom had a very aggressive form of BC, had to have a mastectomy. She never took the pill, breastfed several children, and had no family history that we are aware of. Not sure how/why she got it, but she did. No risk factors. She is in remission thank God, for a long time now (by cancer standards) 5 years. Grueling treatments. All cancer sucks.....
Yes it does. I read or heard somewhere that we ALL have cancer cells in us but they are dormant until something sets them off then they start to mass produce. No one knows what sets them off.
The only thing I’m pro-pink about is fleshy and well lubricated.
Thank you for your post!
One thing that sickens me is watching turf gladiators reduced to wearing pink jerseys, shoes, whatever.
I bet they didn’t get to vote on this decision.
