Report: Pistol shots preceded Kent St. shootings
AP via SFGate ^ | 10/8/10

A tape recording of the shooting deaths of four Kent State University students by Ohio National Guardsmen in 1970 reveals the sound of pistol shots 70 seconds earlier, a newspaper reported Friday, citing the work of a forensic audio expert.

If the pistol fire is authenticated, it could prove a theory that the Guardsmen thought they were being shot at during a campus Vietnam War protest and also could back up witnesses who said an FBI informant monitoring the protest fired warning shots because he felt threatened.

The National Guard opened fire on student protesters on May 4, 1970, killing four and injuring nine others. Eight Guardsmen were acquitted of federal civil rights charges four years later.

Bingo! The National Guard has been smeared for this for 40+ years.

What is it with FBI agents? No one likes them and they always screw up investigations when the butt in citing Federal authority. The audio should be able to contrast the pistol shots to .38s and .45s. Two distinct sounds.

Yup. Just another example of the continual historical revisionism necessary to make certain that ‘60s and ‘70s radicals are never proven wrong about anything.

Back in 78, after my active time, but while I was with the NG,
I got caught up in such a situation during the blizzard of that year.

It ended OK, but were I armed, I would have fired, since they came by choice, while I was on duty. And I had responsibilities beyond my “weekend” job.

I was also around during 70, and refused to boycott classes.
Pissing off, and scaring, people with weapons is so stupid a thing to do that I had no problem at all with ignoring the “victims”.

A lot of us at the time knew there was at least one shot fired and those who said otherwise were lying.

This isn’t exactly new news. Wonder what prompted the SF Gate to run with it now?

It doesn’t say FBI agent. And I’m not sure if FBI informants get any training at all.

They already know because to authenticate their new evidence, it would have been necessary to eliminate the sounds as being anything else, for instance m80’s or other firecrackers.

I think I misread something. I thought this finding of firing over a minute before the deaths of the students happened would exonerate the National Guard. Although the NG has been found non-guilty in a court of law, they have been judged and condemned by the radical left.

“A lot of us at the time knew there was at least one shot fired and those who said otherwise were lying.”

I’ve always suspected that the early shots were fired by protesters. There were some really evil people heading up that movement by the Kent State shootings. Getting the NG guys to fire on protesters would have been a “duh, of course” for them if they thought they could get away with it. A couple of rounds in the air from behind a building and then walk the other way would do it.

Although the NG has been found non-guilty in a court of law, they have been judged and condemned by the radical left.

The same Left who appoint known terrorist and traitor Bill Ayers to academic positions with a "clear conscience" because he was "never convicted" of his crimes.

they have been judged and condemned by the radical left.

As well as the court of public opinion which was shaped by the media in those days as it was the only source for news.

Glenn Beck spoke of this quite some time ago while pointing to Alinsky tactics used by Ayers and his bunch. Seems that an Ayers cohort admits to having agitators to stir the crowd leading to the Chicago riots.

Similar situation here.

It didn't say FBI agent - It said an FBI informant felt threatened. (Someone evidently figured out he was a rat.)

This whole thing was a setup by the left. The campuses had a bunch of Viet Cong sympathziers with the VC and NV in Canada. Kerry was leading the charge and Ted Kennedy was right there.

Our troops being sold out like today.
