This Senate Seat’s history. In ‘92 it was occupied by centrist Dem Al-the-pal-Dixon. House Minority Leader, Bob Michels (R-Peoria) said the Republicans would never get a majority in congress and therefore Republicans should vote for Al-the-pal-Dixon because he funneled money to the Republican side of the establishment (later called the bipartisan combine).

House Minority Leader Michels and the bi-partisan combine put up Williamson (now IL GOP Committeeman) to take a dive against GOP supported Al-the-Pal.

Talkradio people and Ross Perot people were outraged and voted en-masse for the obscure Carole Mosley-Braun who beat the unbeatable Dixon. She went on to beat Williamson, who seems to only know how to take a dive as that seems to now be his counsel as IL GOP Committeeman even when it is a GOP year.

That loss to Braun set up the win by Peter Fitzgerald in ‘98 against Braun. 100% of us who supported Braun in ‘92 supported Fitz in ‘98. Fitzgerald is clearly the best thing that has ever happened to IL politics, and to the IL GOP in our lifetime.

So in that case, the long range strategy of supporting the Dem over the bipartisan combine worked. Such a strategy doesn’t always work. It is up to us to make it work.

I voted for Labno. I won’t need to apologize.

If any of you vote for Kirk, you will need to apologize to the rest of us repeatedly in the coming years. Some of you will be so embarrassed you will cease to post here ...or change your screen name.

Bob's reply in #160 is an excellent read and worth pinging to all Kirk supporters. The problem with Kirk supporters is they only see the immediate "feel good" effect of having "Obama's senate seat" go to a "Republican". They don't care or realize about the long term damage of having a lying leftist combiner in that seat for six years. It's that kind of thinking that "we MUST defeat the Dem at any cost" that got us Ahnuld in California.

Exactly. I know if Kirk is elected and I voted for him he'd make me regret it. So I'm not.

Most of them won't apologize, they will rationalize it. Some people are still defending Arnold. This one guy once prattled on to me about half dozen little things he did right, while missing the big picture.

A lot people simply can't get past the party control argument and have no interest in looking more deeply. They come here and don't know what the combine is and they get cheeky and defensive. They can't let themselves think they were ignorant therefore they think we must all be nuts.

LoL why in the world will anyone supporting the GOP’s candidate apologize to you or anyone else here? Particularly when every Republican vote is likely to be critical. You are deluding yourself.

Kirk will not give most of us voting for him all we want there is no argument about that but his election is critical for control of the Senate. It is really simple.

Then after election go right ahead and organize to remove him.

Oh, and Carol was NOT elected by “talkradio” people and she was not “unknown” at all by anyone conscious. And you are admitting that YOU voted for Braun? WOW.
