Legislative auditor finds evidence of alleged payroll fraud in Aaron Broussard administration

Former Jefferson Parish President Aaron Broussard and former Parish Attorney Tom Wilkinson may have broken state payroll laws by giving $45,000 in excess pay to Broussard's wife and hiring two politically connected individuals as paralegals who had no qualifications, according to a report released by the state Legislative Auditor.

The report also said that an insurance agency owned by Tim Whitmer, Broussard's former top aide, received commissions from the Jefferson Parish Clerk of Court, adding to the list of public entities and parish contractors that hired Whitmer's firm for insurance purposes.

The report follows a nearly year-long saga of federal investigations into Broussard's administration that began with news reports that Whitmer's agency, Lagniappe Industries, was making commissions from supplemental insurance policies sold to employees at West Jefferson Medical Center. Later reports disclosed that Lagniappe also did work for several parish contractors.

Lagniappe's registration with the secretary of state's office also listed former Parish President Tim Coulon and the late Maurice "Hippo" Katz as associates.

The legislative audit, published Wednesday, alleges that Karen Parker, Broussard's wife and a paralegal supervisor for the Law Department, received a total of $45,704 in longevity raises after Wilkinson retroactively classified a period of time between July 31 and Oct. 3, 2003 when she didn't work for the parish as a leave of absence. Parker had resigned to work for Broussard's first presidential campaign. She received a higher salary after the break in service was deleted.

LOL...for those not from Louisiana, "Lagniappe" is a little extra something...an added bonus.

It’s been a long five years catching up with that thieving SOB Broussard, but looks like they’ve finally got him.

Ugh! You had to remind us of Broussard’s televised pathetic tearfest after Katrina?

LOL! That was just to remind everyone (in case they had forgotten) just who is Aaron Broussard.

Or as Moon refers to him, Booboo Broussard.

Wonder if this might cause a few more to be looking over their shoulders?
Just saying ;^)

When he goes to jail, I want to see him frog-marched out of the courthouse in handcuffs.
