Pelosi ties threaten to sink John Spratt
By JESSICA TAYLOR | 10/7/10 4:30 AM EDT

ROCK HILL, S.C. — The combination of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and President Barack Obama is casting a colossal shadow over Democrat John Spratt’s reelection campaign, and the 28-year House veteran all but acknowledges that, as a result, he is facing the toughest election test of his career.

While the president is unpopular in rural South Carolina’s 5th District, it’s hard to compare with the off-the-charts animosity toward Pelosi — sentiment that is regularly stoked by a deluge of television ads, paid for by the National Republican Congressional Committee and outside groups. There are ads noting that the House Budget Committee chairman votes with the speaker 98 percent of the time, decrying “Pelosi’s energy tax” and even one that shows Spratt doing the cancan alongside Pelosi.

When the NRCC went on the air against Spratt in early September, the spot claimed that “since Nancy Pelosi took over, he’s become a rubber stamp.” And the ad’s tagline drives home the point again, in case anyone missed it: “He’s not our congressman anymore; he works for her.”

The ones who brought children could distract them with the anti-Pelosi-themed carnival games, such as the “Soak Pelosi” station, where kids could line up to take aim at a target and, if they hit the mark, drench a man dressed in a wig and pearls, posing as the House speaker.

Need one of those in DC.

Charlotte media must be too expensive because I never see any ads from Spratt or Mulvaney.

Spratt is my daughters congress critter. She said he is so entrenched he will be almost imposssible to beat. She has hopes but does not see a way to rid this district of the Spratt money and choke hold.

I’m afraid she is right. Where does your screen name come from? Not the 1st Armored Division by any chance?

Your right, she had plenty of help. But Nancy is the one that makes me me fly into a rage, see spots and spew spittle whenever I think of her marching down that street holding that gavel with that look of pure orgasmic power-madness on her face and then calling the tea partiers “astro turf” for having the gall to speak up about their agenda to destroy America.

Funny, all it takes for me is seeing a driver with an Obama/Biden ‘08 bumper sticker. I am seething at the whole lot of them - the useful idiots and the power hungry scum who use them.

From the article:
In an interview with POLITICO, Mulvaney said that when he decided to get into the race in November, he didn’t expect that there would be so much resentment to tap into. And Spratt’s votes with the Democratic majority on the GOP’s target vote trifecta — health care reform, the economic stimulus and cap and trade — have made it considerably easier for him to make his case.

“I don’t think this is a national wave election in this particular circumstance. Certainly, it’s going to help among some folks. But if [Spratt] hadn’t voted the way he did, you couldn’t beat him. The only reason we’re ahead is because of his voting record,” Mulvaney said.

Surveying the crowd at the picnic, York County Republican Party Chairman Glenn McCall said he’s “never seen people this fired up.” The GOP national committeeman described Spratt’s votes as indicative of a “lack of understanding of his constituents.”

Republican Sen. Jim DeMint, a former House colleague of Spratt's who has directed fundraising support to Mulvaney, tied all of it together in a speech.

“All of us are putting our hands on Mick’s and we’re helping him take the gavel out of the hands of Nancy Pelosi,” DeMint told the ebullient crowd. “Washington has changed [Spratt]. It’s amazing in the last year that he’s voted for these bailouts and failed stimulus and the takeover of our health care system and the takeover of our auto companies and [the] takeover of our financial system. Folks, it’s just time for a change here in this district.”

Spratt is a gungrabbing elitist who thinks we stupid peons in S.C. need to be forcibly brought unto enlightenment.

Believe I’ll just go on clingin’ to my religion and my guns for as long as I long to vote against this Democr@p.

`Specially the latter. If Spratt wants my number, it’s 12 gauge, 30-06, and .45 ACP.

Nah, I think the reputation of invincibility that so many southern Dem congressmen have is due mostly to to the fact that most of their opponents have been crap. Look at McIntyre in NC - he usually wins with 70+% but now that he’s finally drawn a good opponent, one who knows how to campaign, he’ll likely lose. I am much more confident that Spratt will lose, than I am with many of these other Dems.

I rarely watch TV and I’ve caught them, from Mulvaney and Spratt and outside groups against both. I see them on during the 11 o’clock news and Frasier reruns. Same with Kissell and Johnson.
