What's the old saying?

Something like: "When you take the king's coin, you play the king's tune".

What an absurd idea! Just how does one intend to enforce it?
It would require the full cooperation of the store owners. With bigger grocery store chains and computerized registers, yeah, it could be done quite easily. But the smaller outlets that don’t have access to that kind of technology it would be up to the store owner to tell his customers “no”. That ain’t gonna fly.
I’ll be danged if I’m going to invest hundreds in a check out system for my dinky lil’ store that will only alienate and tick off my customers that use the EBT cards.

This is a good idea. We are paying for their health care. Why should we be buying them Coke and Twinkies?

But you can still buy ice cream and candy with food stamps.

Cut SNAP allowances by 90 percent and allow it for bulk grains only.

To the average person, government attacking sugar and salt would be seen for what it is---an outrageous affront to the dignity of a supposedly free people. Nevermind that this is about welfare recipients. The crusade isn't limited to just those with their hand out.

The fact that these people aren't immediately rejected by an overwhelming majority of citizens demonstrates just how sick and dejected our populace is, at least in certain precincts.

Then again, this is the country that once banned alcohol, and by constitutional amendment, no less. These laws, like laws against marijuana, rob people of their dignity, and make the concept of freedom a joke.

And when the concept of freedom becomes a joke, as it has, then the argument for freedom falls on deaf ears. Freedom? What the hell is that? It's not about freedom anymore. It's about what can I get from the gubmint, and what will the gubmint allow.

Sugary Drinks???..

Drink the damn tap water if you are thirsty.

How many of us budget conscious folks eliminated soda along with other sugary drinks when our hours were cut or or paychecks were reduced by 20%+???

I’m betting most of us have.

I took a MAJOR pay cut last year an now it’s tap water or brew some Folgers. That’s it!!!

I , for one, grow weary budgeting my paycheck while politicians argue over the rights of people on charity on what they can or cannot buy with FREE money!!!!

They are one fricken food stamps ...they should be damn greatful to get free food paid for by taxpayers.

When they first came out the grocery stores had signs at the cash registers with pictures of things you couldn’t buy, soda pop being one of them. Hell, now I go to the meat market and watch the diversity crowd tell the butcher how thick to cut their steaks.

Good!

Cut em off.

They don't need steak, lobster tails. cakes, cookies, pies, soft drinks, snack chips, etc. etc. etc.

Let them learn how to live like people that work for a living and pay for their own food.

Seen the WIC cards in Texas used at gas stations for overly priced peanuts and gatoraide. 2X the price at the grocery stores.

Awful stuff. There has to be some sort of competition for price with this stuff.

The problem with government issued food supplement, is that the recipients are given carte blanche with no guidlines for making the most of those dollars. EBT does not guarantee nutrition...it just guarantees access—to all kinds of wasteful junk. Supplements should cover only basic food group items (bread, meat, dairy, produce, flour and cereals) with no junked-out convenience crap—no snacks, no soda, no cash.
It should be a temporary program, not a multi-generational way of life. People should be uncomfortable in their poverty so they work to get OUT of it.
Provide limited but basic nutrition;
and it needs to come from the federal government, not some fascist mayor.
It’s your tax dollars-—you like buying pork rinds, grape soda, snack cakes and over salted boxed entrees to give as gifts?
Remember, they will most likely be the first in line for government healthcare—not you.

Do these idiots realize that most fruit juices have more calories and sugar than Coke does? If I were Coke I’d add vitamins and market it as “healthier than fruit juice”.
