Time to find out who the major suppliers of grape and orange soda are and short them.

Frankly speaking we should get rid of food stamps, head start and all the other garbage hand out programs but in these economic times ... we can't. Decent people are now on them.

You pay for them whether they eat cupcakes or your APPROVED DIET for them. No one worth their salt stays on these programs. The fact is that there will always be a certain percentage of people on them - sometimes by no fault of their own.

So those that are worth their salt will get off this stuff asap. Those that aren't will continue on it.

Yes, I know.
But my customers who use EBT already know that and accept it.
Although I still do have the occasional plea to just add that pack of smokes to their groceries, I don’t give in. That would be putting my biz and family at risk.
Folks would have a hard time accepting a food restriction on their food card.

“Nowadays, with the use of a swipe card instead of coupons, and every product having a bar code”

That’s what I was saying. Big food stores could do this quite easily and do. Lil’ guys like me who still use manual registers and don’t use the bar codes system it would be just another bs hassle to us doing business. I have a swiper for card purchases, but I have to ring it up manually.

OK, OK, you win.

They should be able to take 80% of my paycheck and spend it as they please with no input from me, the producer of the wealth that they are using.

You’re right, this is the only “freedom oriented” solution.

You are talking about immigration.

YES, they are scamming the system. They'd been doing this for years. That has to change too but under Obama that will not happen. All these years Republicans did NOTHING.

Here's another common scam - buying citizenship through a phony marriage. Yes, in Patterson, that horrendous arm pit, they interview the “husband” and “wife” separately to see just how “married” they are. One purchases the “marriage” from the other in exchange for citizenship then they either annul it or “divorce”. Oh, during these separate interviews each interviewer asks very personal questions to see if this is a bought marriage. Even if it is a bought marriage there isn't much they can do about it.

Of course if you don't want to go through all that, you can buy phony citizenship papers. About ten years ago they ran about 15K. Who knows what they are up to now. All you have to do is go up to NY and you'll find just the right connections to make that happen. The documents look very good too.

Oh, in NJ all you need is a picture ID and a SS# to prove you are legal. That's really easy to get .... . Of course you have to lie, but you already made that decision to lie when you too the illegal path. Yes, I know all about this stuff. I was born here and legal of course but as a former NYer it's common knowledge.

You lost the “input” when you turned it over to the GOVERNMENT.

Vote out the SOBS that ENCOURAGE being on the dole and stopping job creation.

Do these idiots realize that most fruit juices have more calories and sugar than Coke does? If I were Coke I’d add vitamins and market it as “healthier than fruit juice”.

I agree with that. Look where we are. The government creates the situation and then they are the antidote to the problems.

I don't want to sound heartless. I have been broke. More than once. So, I do know what it is like to go to the grocery store and have to painstakingly mentally add up the items. I never even entertained the notion of food stamps.

I think food stamps are a bad idea all the way around. But as long as they exist, they should be for food. These control freaks want to tell me I can't have a happy meal or use a lightbulb, then their proponents and supporters should feel the weight of their tyranny just as equally.

Yes but those things (Captain Crunch) are cheaper and why they are purchased. I'd love to get some Cream of Wheat but the price is prohibitive. On the other hand Quaker Oats is cheap enough. The problem is kids don't like it. Too bad as brown sugar makes it yummy. Also most of those kids get a free breakfast at school don't they?

Oh and, I HATE Twinkies. Bleck! lol

You're not heartless and I understand the frustration. I truly do but in these times ... allot of good people are getting hurt.

I'd like to see ALL these government entitlement programs GONE. I'd like to get back to our roots. Have churches do their jobs and look out for the less fortunate and those in trouble. The truth is many “churches” see that as the job of the government as well and are just as thrilled to have government money to have the “unfortunate” become dependent on them for selfish “feel good” reasons.

The idea should always be that it is temporary and the ones in need get lifted up and move off of charity. For those where it is not feasible to be independent than FAMILY must step in more.

Where there is truly no family then maybe some exceptions can be made if churches can do their job. There I would chastise churches and question why they don't practice what they preach and do it at THEIR EXPENSE. In the forming of our country this is how it was done. We had no welfare and entitlement programs and we had a better citizenry.

.Remember their names at the ballot boxes

The people who would be affected by this proposed ban should also be banned from the ballot box.

It’s not the same thing as control. Foodstamps are not a right, it’s a government program that is poorly run. Why should the taxpayers be burdened to pay for people’s junk food habits?

If the person who is receiving food stamps wants to purchase non nutritious foodstuff then they have the right to pay out of their own pockets.

Foodstamps should be set up like the WIC voucher system where it is limited to nutritional foods only. The point is to provide essential nutrition to maintain health.

I agree with you. It’s amazing what can be done through computer programming. Food stamps is yet another government program that has been put together in patchwork manner and fixes made in shotgun fashion to accommodate a politician’s current idea. IMO, the whole program should be scrapped and a new one developed that has controls and monitoring built in.

I’ve mixed feelings about this. Probably not a good idea in the long run as it’s a slippery slope. Next thing you know, every food item will be vetted to be on or off the “approved” list. Next, Section 8 housing folks will be told how much TV they’re allowed to watch and which channels, etc.

Personally, I think anyone on the dole shouldn’t be allowed to vote in certain elections. That is, anyone taking entitlement funds (excepting those directly earned as a consequence of working and paying into the fund, such as SS, Medicare, state unemployment, workmans comp, etc.), should not be allowed to vote in an election involving those elected officials who have a say in allocating or spending the entitlement funds.
