I’ve mixed feelings about this. Probably not a good idea in the long run as it’s a slippery slope. Next thing you know, every food item will be vetted to be on or off the “approved” list. Next, Section 8 housing folks will be told how much TV they’re allowed to watch and which channels, etc.

Personally, I think anyone on the dole shouldn’t be allowed to vote in certain elections. That is, anyone taking entitlement funds (excepting those directly earned as a consequence of working and paying into the fund, such as SS, Medicare, state unemployment, workmans comp, etc.), should not be allowed to vote in an election involving those elected officials who have a say in allocating or spending the entitlement funds.

They already have criteria for WIC (you’ve seen the “WIC approved” labels in stores, right?),

I don’t see it as too big of a step to apply criteria to what you can buy with food stamps. You can’t buy smokes or liquor with them now.
