'Terrifying Numbers for Democrats'
The Wall Street Journal ^ | 10-06-10 | JAMES TARANTO

Posted on 10/06/2010 6:11:13 PM PDT by GOP_Lady

"Democratic poll-watchers were having a pretty good Monday," wrote the New York Times's Nate Silver yesterday. "Rasmussen Reports had shown Republicans with a relatively small 3-point advantage on the generic ballot--the narrowest advantage that Rasmussen has shown for Republicans in about a year."

Of course, "pretty good" is a relative term. As we noted in June, generic polls tend to overestimate Democratic strength. The GOP "won control of Congress in 1994 after running roughly even in the generic poll. The Democrats, by contrast, led the Gallup generic poll by 19 points, 56% to 37%, in October 2006, just before they took over."

In reporting its latest generic poll results, also released Monday, Gallup helps explain why this is the case. Like Rasmussen, Gallup showed the Republicans with a three-point lead, 46% to 43%, among all registered voters. "However, in Gallup's first estimates among likely voters, . . . Republicans have a double-digit advantage under two separate turnout scenarios."

setting expectations... so that when the elections get here, no matter what, they can insure a dem victory by stuffing the ballot box

if the expectations were too far one way, they would end up with riots just like iran’s elections

He’s gotten most everything he wanted with a Dem majority, why would he want to change that?

Because he wants a second term in the White House.

Ohmigawd, it’s like you had a picture of ME. Except I am blond, 100 pounds lighter and 20 years older. Other than that, I thought I was looking in a mirror!

Salt Lake City is a nice town, but too many amenities to keep politicians there. I’d prefer something a little more isolated, like somewhere along I-80 in Wyoming. Or reopen Fort Laramie.

yes. we keep fighting no matter how many seats we win or lose this cycle. one cycle at a time, but keep getting up and fighting.

What was that famous graduation speech Winston Churchill gave? He just said seven times, “Never quit. Never quit.
Never quit. Never quit. Never quit. Never quit. Never quit.”

And then he sat down.

And all they ended up gaining was 30 seats.

Q. I am looking for the brief speech that Churchill made to the graduating class of, I believe, Oxford or Cambridge. Memory serves that the speech was simply "Never give up, Never give up, never give up." Is this correct?

A. This is our most frequent quote request. The speech was made 29 October 1941 to the boys at Harrow School. " Never, never, in nothing great or small, large or petty, never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.'' The full speech is contained in "The Unrelenting Struggle" (London:Cassell and Boston:Little Brown 1942, and is found on pages 274-76 of the English edition). It may also be found in "The Complete Speeches of Winston S. Churchill," edited by Robert Rhodes James (NY:Bowker and London:Chelsea House 1974).

The ground swell must continue with the force of a tsunami-hurricane & tornado. The country must be swept as clean of this political ruling class that is trading our freedom for their power. We need servants who love country before self.

that’ll show the world that America still wants to be free, and not some third-world craphole that lives in grass huts and eats roots and berries for sustenance.

I wish you'd quit crayfishing and tell us what you really think!

The first palm-trees are crashing down at the far end of the street, and the Dems are telling each other, "Oh, it's just a work crew!"

Somewhere, Barry Goldwater is laughing.

I say the GOP needs to win at least 100 House and 15 Senate seats, and that’ll show the world that America still wants to be free, and not some third-world craphole that lives in grass huts and eats roots and berries for sustenance.

You mean, America doesn't want Obama to bring us down to size? Why, just imagine how America can look after Obama's done!

Redoing evil suburbia!

Healthcare for all, not just a few (unless you mean Congress)

Ridding America of our evil, individual transportation choices!

Ensuring farmers have the latest Washington-designed equipment!

Remember, America, Obama wants what's best for you!
