I do love how dirty liberal green hippies fail even basic math...

From the article:

Based on available roof space, administration officials expect the photovoltaic system will include between 25 to 75 panels and will convert sunlight into 19,700 kilowatt hours of electricity a year. That would save a typical household $2,300 on its electricity bill, based on commercial rates in Washington. The solar hot water heating system, based on government estimates, could save an additional $1,000 a year.

Kennedy estimates that outfitting Obama's pad with solar would cost about $100,000 if paid out of pocket. But the money would be earned back with savings on the electric bill in the first five years

Only in dirty green hippie fantasy land is $3,300 x 5 equal to $100,000.

Man, the reporter didn’t even stop to do some basic math with a pencil and some paper.

$100K????? You should be able to supply all the electricity for the WH with a system like that. I can take care of my house for $30K. But I won’t live long enough to pay it back, so I’m not doing it. Even if the government pays for 50% of it, where’s the savings? Someone has to pay for it, one way or another.

There's a reason solar panel manufacturers give, well, claim 20 year or more guarantees - that's how long, sans TVM, it will take to recover the initial cost at current electric rates.

That reminds me. "Plugs" Biden's home state has numerous SP mfgs...

$100,000 divided by 19700kw-hr = $5/kwhr. Divided over the average lifespan of solar panels (20-25years) is $0.20 -$0.25/kwhr. Assuming the 19700kwhr/year takes into account cloudy days, dirt/grime on the panels, degredation over time of the photocells themselves.

For comparison, including all my taxes and fees, I pay $0.16/kwhr total for over-the-wire electricity.

The cost benefit analysis is even worse than the installation cost and energy savings indicates. Solar panels deteriorate over time, perhaps 1 percent per year. Invertors also need replacement. The cost benefit analysis should factor into the declining energy production and the cost to replace invertors about every 10 years.

In defense of this installation however is the cost of electricity. If the Democrats can artificially inflate electricity costs high enough (10 times), these panels are a great investment.

“Only in dirty green hippie fantasy land is $3,300 x 5 equal to $100,000.”

And in Washington, where money bled from hardworking taxpayers isn’t even considered money - it’s just a government perk.

No way is the White House paying only $2300 a year in electric bills, its complete gibberish. In 2000, I remember something about the Navy paying for Cheney’s electric Bill at around $186,000 a year. The WH must necessarily be more! These are not just houses but command centers for the President and VP. This is obviously a gimmick by Zero to please the “green” yuppies but the numbers still don’t add up. A $100,000/year bill for the White House makes way more sense. I understand the POTUS is an idiot, but I am still surprised how we easily accept any piece of information without criticism just because it is anti-Zero. I’d rather be legit in my critiques....
