Pence for President in 2012?
Human Events ^ | 10/4/10 | Connie Hair

House Republican Conference Chairman Mike Pence (R-Ind.) was spotted in Iowa over the weekend speaking at just the type of banquet that attracts a presidential candidate: the 10th Annual Friends of the Family Banquet for the Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalition and the Iowa Christian Alliance Education Fund.

Pence would definitely fit the bill for a strong fiscally conservative candidate with traditional family values. He was the surprise winner of the Family Research Council's Voter Values 2010 Summit in September edging out Mike Huckabee, Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich and Sarah Palin.

For those who may be unfamiliar with Pence's solid articulation of conservative principles, this weekend's Iowa speech: (snip)

"Following our election losses in 2006 and 2008, most Republicans were still sure of our principles, but we were pretty uncertain about the future. I mean, a year ago it seemed like it was only a remnant of people in this country unbowed by the glamour and the appeal of the new American left.

(snip)

"When I opposed No Child Left Behind, when I opposed the Medicare prescription drug bill and when I opposed the Wall Street bailout, I knew that if we kept acting like big government liberals, the American people were eventually going to go with the professionals. And they did.

"Truth is, our party in Congress walked away from the principles that minted our national governing majority and the American people walked away from us.

-—”House members don’t get elected President.”-—

In the real world, you are correct. But this is FR, where Ambassadors and local Congressmen are going to shock the world, and upset everybody, and come out of nowhere and pull the greatest upset EVER (this time for SURE!!!).

You bet a local Congressman is going to win the presidency this time; and he’s going to ride a flying unicorn to the inaugural ball, too!

Works for me too, and why don’t house members get elected for president?

Because they don’t have any executive experience. It’s why I wouldn’t vote for Pence or any other congressperson or Senator.

PA: Pence is good on downsizing government.

But do you know what his current position is on immigration?

During the last big amnesty push that Pres. Arbusto made, I believe Pence was trying to triangulate by working out some kind of “back of the line”, pay a token fee scam, then let them in.

This is an extremely important issue and Pence needs to be pinned down on it.

If you have any info on this, great. He’s a good man but this could be a serious flaw.

Pence never got the chance to see his plan move forward to ‘triangulate’ as you say. All I know is the the Pence Hutchison plan was still better than McCain Kennedy - COmprehensive Immigration Refrom - which oddly enough, is still supported by McCain and his groupies.

And there is little doubt that Pence has returned to the fold of law and order GOPers after he was chastised.

Mike Pence is great, but we have to continue focusing on the 2010 midterms. There will be plenty of time for 2012 starting on November 3.

I like Pence. He is nibbling at the edge of my short list. I haven’t seen him really get in Obama’s face on anything, though. To get squarely into the middle of my short list, I’d like to see him go on the attack, force O to bad mouth him by name the next time Obama lets out his weekly Fox-Beck-Palin-TeaParty rant. Getting badmouthed by Obama by name is a sure-fire ticket to my short list.

Is that letting the opponent choose my candidate for me? Maybe, but whoever they’re scaredest of is probably who I want.

I like Arpaio. If he gets thrown out as sheriff maybe we can bring him back as head of Homeland Security. I wish we had a few Arpaios we could run for office in California.

I want candidates who intend to repeal that Nazi takeover of our country, the so-called heath care bill!

These clowns were trashing Pence when he introduced a border security bill that mirrored Tom Tancredo's. I know, I was here, and I remember the threads calling Pence a RINO and a sell-out.

Now all of a sudden Pence is the gold standard and he is the choice for President. Hogwash. While I believe that Pence is a fine conservative Congressman and would make a great Speaker, in no way, shape, or form is he qualified to be President.

But it just shows you the hypocrisy, futility, and desperation of FReepers who continue to look for the Holy Grail of Republican presidential candidates.

Well, I like him, but we'll see if Pence can beat "unsure" in a republican primary anywhere..........pissant's cultist object of worship never could........

Congesscritters don't jump from that position to nominee, let alone president.

Before I clicked on this thread, I knew it was posted by pissy. Old pissy just keeps tossing out candidates he pretends to be for.

When you scratch him, his fixation with ex-congresscritter Hunter just oozes out over everyone. If any of the ones he pretends to be for actually got traction, he'd start trashing them big time in his delusional quest to get the nomination for DH.

somebody needs to beat Mittster in the Granite State. It’s not clear that Palin would even make an effort there ... Pawlenty: no evidence he is/will catch on there.

maybe Pence. NH gopers are saavy enuf to flee 4th place candidates and consolidate around one candidate ...

Way past time to start a drastic reorganization of primaries and primary states. NH hasn’t been relevant to the preference of the Conservative base of the GOP in, what, 3 decades ? Were they to vote for Slick Willard, it would forever cement their rep, and not in a good way.

regardless of conservative base and New Hampshire: Buchanan ‘96 victory was the coalition to stop Dole, McCain 2000 victory was the coalition to stop Bush, and McCain ‘08 victory was the coalition to stop Romney.

Pawlenty looked like the original plan to beat Mitt in NH. No evidence that he is catching on there. There is an opportunity for somebody to be the stop-Mitt candidate in NH. I would not want to guess. Part of my point is that the opposition to the frontrunner tends not to splinter between 3 or 4 candidates .... they look to make it a 2-way horse race.
