The Rise of Black Republicans
Real Clear Politics ^ | October 3,2010 | Jack Kelly

I bet you haven't heard of Tim Scott, Allen West or Ryan Frazier. If they were Democrats, I might lose that bet.

But they're not. Mr. Scott, Mr. West and Mr. Frazier are three of the 14 black candidates running for Congress as Republicans this November. Thirty-two black Republicans ran in the primaries.

Most of the 14 are running all-but-hopeless races against black Democratic incumbents in black majority districts. But Mr. Scott, running in South Carolina, is a virtual cinch to win. Mr. West (Florida) and Mr. Frazier (Colorado) are in races that are judged tossups.

If all three win, that would be a post-Reconstruction record. The largest number of black Republicans to serve together in the House in the last century is two, J.C. Watts (Oklahoma) and Gary Franks (Connecticut) between 1995 and 1997. There haven't been any since Mr. Watts retired in 2003.

One might think the resurgence of black Republicans, coming as it does at a time when a black Democrat is president, would rate more than a feature story or two in the national media. But that would conflict with the liberal meme that Republicans are racist.

I don’t care if they’re black or green. If their color is their main claim to fame then I won’t vote for them. Their political views are important, not their color.

They should run some TEA party black-Republicans in predominantly white districts...they’d win.

More and more blacks are realizing that conservatives have the best interests of ALL Americans at heart. I want everyone to succeed and be the best the can be - for the benefit of my country!

Will the winners be admitted to the (racist) Black Congressional Caucus?

Well, if you stop by any of their websites and read up on who they are, and what they believe in, you'll find that they're just solid conservatives with an unusual paint job.

Don’t forget Star Parker is running for Congress - if she wins, she’ll be the first one (black repub female). Ought to make for some real interesting Black caucus meetings.

Before you are black, you are American.

Democrats need to know this.

My favorite black candidate is a homeschool mother and former accountant running for state senate in Illinois. She is running against a white male in a racially diverse district. A fiscal conservative not liked by the NEA.

Now, that's an interesting question. Naturally, the answer is, no.

The CBC would slice their own throats, rather than admit a conservative of ANY race to their little club - and ESPECIALLY a black conservative, whom they consider to be race traitors.

The real question (at least to me) is, will any of these black Republicans even want to be admitted to the CBC? At first blush, I'd say that I hope they don't. However, what if their aim is to get inside the CBC to disrupt their progressive agenda? That'd take some balls.

Yeah, Star Parker can be the "invisible woman" when it comes to the progressives and the CBC.

Free thinkers need not apply.

She is the real deal, too! Would that black people valued such women as Star and the values she brings to the table. But alas, mediocrity is the greatest value in the community which Jesse Jackasson and Al Dulltoons have sired.

This is fantastic news and I hope the trend continues.

Free thinking blacks who refuse to drink the leftoid Kool-Aid are as fired up about the Tea Party revolution as anyone else. This is why you're seeing so many blacks standing for office on the Republican side.

Black Republicans have always been with us, but until lately, they've been a much-ignored super minority. Now, their very existence is a mark of high rebellion, and the tenor of the times has pushed them into the spotlight.

Not long ago, several members of our local Tea Party prodded me to run for city council. For personal reasons, it's a job that I shouldn't be taking on at this time, but I was willing to take on the responsibility anyway. As luck would have it, another black conservative wound up stepping up to the plate at the 11th hour, and he won the election.

I don't think that race had anything to do with our being asked to run, but I did think it pretty ironic that in a town with maybe only 3% blacks, we two wound up in that position.

Thank God, my parents raised me that way. It was a good inoculation against leftist indoctrination, later in my life.

You have to like her slogan: "Springfield needs more accountants, fewer lawyers!"

Works for any state!
