Ever Wonder How Obama Became President of the Harvard Law Review?
NYT ^ | February 6, 1990 | FOX BUTTERFIELD

The Harvard Law Review, generally considered the most prestigious in the country, elected the first black president in its 104-year history today. The job is considered the highest student position at Harvard Law School. The new president of the Review is Barack Obama, a 28-year-old graduate of Columbia University who spent four years heading a community development program for poor blacks on Chicago's South Side before enrolling in law school. His late father, Barack Obama, was a finance minister in Kenya and his mother, Ann Dunham, is an American anthropologist now doing fieldwork in Indonesia. Mr. Obama was born in Hawaii. ''The fact that I've been elected shows a lot of progress,'' Mr. Obama said today in an interview. ''It's encouraging.

“Anyone notice this was published in 1990?”

That’s correct - it was written right after he was selected president of the Review. Why is that odd?

Ever Wonder How Obama Became President of the Harvard Law Review?

1. Cosmic Joke.
2. Twilight Zone.
3. Harvard board on LSD.
4. Affirmative Action.
5. Because he is smart.

HMMM? Number 3 or 4 most likely.

That sounds rather racist to me.

No duh... but then we know who the real racists are - the ones who take the black vote for granted, who desperately want to keep them down on the plantation to be sure they stay ignorant.

Mr. Obama said: "I personally am interested in pushing a strong minority perspective."

Good post, good find. So little we know about our peculiar president and what little we learn is of no comfort to the well-being of the whole.

obama has gotten a lot of mileage out of his skin color. There’s no way he would have been admitted into Columbia if it wasn’t for his skin color and Islamic name. My guess is that he wouldn’t have been admitted into Harvard if it wasn’t for his race and name. I know he had a lot of backers to get him in.

“White guilt” got him SELECTED to be president of the Harvard Law Review and it got him elected president of the USA.

This article reveals a lot. I did not know that he waited 4 years before going to law school. In that 4 years he was in Chicago. Why....and what made him want to go there? That is the link that needs to be researched. The "community service" excuse is a front for the real reason. Big time.

How did he pay for law school? Did someone or some group see that he had potential and did they pay his way? His entire story life story is strange and subject to questioning.

It also looks like the Harvard Law Review was due to choose someone of color, so he was picked. Otherwise, he would not have been chosen. It was not out of merit. Pure and simple. He used his color to his advantage at every turn.

No worries. Copies of this exist in a tangible, non-digital format all across this nation.

I would think it would be in PDF form as a scanned document.

In 1990 we had MCImail, Arpanet and Darpanet but HTML was not invented until, I believe, 1995. That’s HTML 2.0 and even though there was html before it was rudimentary.

But the important thing is “there were no electronic papers, from major publishers, in existence at that time.

There was BBS back then but it wasn’t in the nice neat frame that this article is in. Of course, frames didn’t exist then either.

Is NYT publishing all their works in HTML?

I think there are a number of student editors, but one president. Until Obama's selection, the president was the one with the most impressive record. He had no publications except perhaps one very minor item, and apparently didn't do much work as president--would stop by from time to time but let the #2 guy do the real work.

Good training for his current job where he has lots of time for golf and campaign speeches but leaves the details of "his" legislative agenda to Pelosi and Reid.

I was being sarcastic. I wouldn't trust the NYT for where George Washington was born, let alone Barack Obama.

So who knows WHO ghost wrote Barack's special writing competition entry... (but I have my suspicions)

Oooooh, ooooh! Mr. Kotter, Mr. Kotter! I know the answer! Would it be a member of the Weather Underground who liked to play with explosives and now works as a professor?

Vendome, you're close enough... you win the kewpie doll. :-)

The NYT didn't have a website back then because AlGore didn't invent the Internet until 1991. Heehee...
