...What reapportionment says about the future is perhaps less interesting than what it says about the present.
Red states are gaining population relative to blue states because of the divergence in policy. Jobs, and thus people, flock to red states because they are generally easier places to do business. If the states are, as Justice Brandeis posited, laboratories of democracy, then places such as New York, which will have lost sixteen electoral votes since 1960, and Massachusetts, which will have gone from fourteen to nine seats in those five decades, must be considered failed experiments....

No kidding...they made their liberal bed in their old states, they should stay and reap what they sowed...
‘Whats that strange little state in the middle of Nebraska?’
Nebraska divides its electoral votes by congressional districts. The two at large votes went GOP as did two of the three congressional districts. The third district went Dem.
Texas is picking up four seats. Now way all 4 will be Republican. With some creativity, the new districts will be favorable to all.
Texas is one of nine states that still come under the control of the Feds for approval of Congressional Districts via the Voting Rights Act of 1965. That is one reason you see such screwed up district lines imo.
"Nothin' between him and the Lord but his over-hauls...he DID have the bottom side button buttoned...."
Exactly, the Voting Rights Act ensures that blacks will be represnted by black critters. Same hasnt been formilized dwith hispanic voters. If they could be in Majority-minority districts as well...
I like Austin so much, I would like to see 5 slices of congressional pizza come out of there.
The Finger Lakes area is still beautiful, but you wouldn’t want to see the D & C these days. Pitiful. Taxes are worse than ever.

I’m pretty sure the GOP will redistrict Ohio, too.
I am from the Finger Lakes area. Back in the 70's, you could buy "camps" right on the water for a very reasonalbe sum.
Today, the taxes alone will kill you. All the locals Democrats get together and raise taxes on them like you would not believe. If you have a nice home on a lake like Skaneateles, you better have won the lottery or have made millions on Wall Street, even for a modest home like this.
Good for you!
Agreed. See post #55 of this thread.
According to Wikipedia, it was Tim Russert who did it for the 2000 election. Prior to that, Blue = Republican,
and Red = Commie....errrr...Democrat.
Yes, and the CA migrants take their liberal habits with them to NV, AZ, CO, and even WY now.
Kookcinich might be your only rat left in the house.
Please do something about Sherrod Brown.
That’s alright, let them bring their liberalism with them. Down here in Texas, the Conservative element will dilute it and the numbers will give the RED STATES more Congressional seats and MORE ELECTORAL VOTES!!! YEEEEEHAW!
Brown isn’t up this time.
When he comes up.
Nebraska and Maine are the only two states without a winner-take-all electoral vote rule. The red and blue blocks represent the distribution of those electoral votes.
Great news for California!
Lets hope the trend continues.
