Bachmann throws Bush under bus
Politico ^ | September 29, 2010 | Kasie Hunt

Michele Bachmann famously couldn’t let go of George W. Bush during an encounter with the president following his 2007 State of the Union address. Now, however, she can’t seem to get far enough away.

In a new ad out Wednesday, Bachmann distances herself from Bush and lumps him in with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and President Barack Obama.

“That’s why fought and I voted against the Bush Wall Street bailout, the failed Pelosi trillion-dollar stimulus and Obama’s government takeover of healthcare,” she says in the ad.

It’s a far cry from Bachmann’s warm embrace of Bush after his annual SOTU address three years ago. After that speech, in a moment memorialized on YouTube, Bachmann took Bush’s arm and held on even as he shook another congresswoman’s hand—and continued to hang on for at least 30 seconds until she received a hug and kiss from the president as well.

The Wall Street bailouts — formally the Troubled Asset Relief Program, or TARP — passed with some Republican support in 2008 at the end of Bush’s second term. The vote helped galvanize the tea party and has helped spell doom for several Republican House and Senate incumbents who have lost primaries, including South Carolina Rep. Bob Inglis.

Bachmann is running against state Sen. Tarryl Clark in Minnesota’s 6th District. She’s raised more than $4.7 million this cycle, in a contest that ranks as one of the most expensive House races this year.

“With friends like this, who needs enemies?”

Weird - That thought was in my head when I posted the Medicare part D comment.

Bush was a mediocrity as president who got elected because the alternative in both cases was far worse. He is no conservative and many of his actions went far to discredit his party and give Hussein the White House and the leftists control of the congress. That said - compared to the buffoon we have now Bush looks like a statesman of the first order. I was right to vote for him twice because Gore is a proven lunatic and Lurch a seditious, pompous fool.
Excellent summing up of the last 3 presidential elections.

Kudos to you.

I’m sure Bush is really upset about this. ROTFL!!! After all, he isn’t running for anything. The Politico. Geeesh. What a waste of bandwidth.

If you keep this in mind while reading their stuff, it's pretty easy to spot the pattern.

I find that I never even think of ..... Politicrap.

This leftist rag is in full campaign mode. No thanks, I have my eye on the real enemy. Politico would love for us to forget that we have a muzzie, commie thug in the White house and a bunch of socialist libtards running congress. I can hardly wait until November.

From the story: “In a new ad out Wednesday, Bachmann distances herself from Bush and lumps him in with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and President Barack Obama.”

Michelle is a conservative stalwart. She is just trying to express that she is not a Jorge Bush type Republican, but a consistent conservative. It’s the same point the Tea Party movement has been making.

I don’t know about you, but I line up much more compatibly with Bachmann, DeMint, and Reagan than I do with Jorge.

Good info and thanks for the link.

No way she should be proud of this craven betrayal of President Bush.

I would not vote for her if I could. If this is true.

Too many people are turning too hard against Pres. Bush.

I understand this is election season so much will be said which would not be said at other times.

My suspicion is that Pres. Bush will be embraced more in the next congress when it is realized that leadership is not so easy.

God bless Pres. Bush.

That and the left loves trashing conservative women. I think it all goes back to the leftist metrosexual male thing. Strong women scare the hell out of metrosexual males.

I totally agree. It was tacky and unnecessary. What good did it do her? It just ticked some people off, including me.

Why join Obama and the liberals in blaming Bush for everything?

Oh, yeah, it is so easy to do the Bush bash dance.

I wish I would see one post (that I didn’t write) that would just praise Bush without delineating all the things he did that they didn’t like.

Did he have a congress?

No.

Was he a nice guy? Yes, maybe too nice.

I know better than to let the politico turn me against someone because they have their reasons, but my regard for Michelle just dropped a lot of notches.

Why did she have to do that? She could have extolled her conservative virtues without belittling a guy she adored when she needed him.

Good for Bachmann. Bush bought the Paulson/Goldman Mafia line w/o question. It wasn’t necessary. She stood firm. Fair is fair.

What, for not voting for his massive bailout—or for telling the voters that she didn’t vote for it?
