Why Christiane Amanpour Is Bombing on ABC's 'This Week' (Cause she's a she and a DC outsider)
Politics Daily ^ | October 1, 2010 | Luisita Lopez Torregrosa

Posted on 10/01/2010 4:07:00 AM PDT by Zakeet

Nine weeks since her hot launch as the host of one of the major Sunday political talk shows, Christiane Amanpour is tanking as the ratings for ABC's "This Week " have fallen dramatically to the point that the program occasionally drops to last place among the top three. "This Week," under hosts George Stephanopolous and Jake Tapper, at times hit No. 1, but usually held a strong second place in the Sunday morning talk show wars, after the perennial favorite, "Meet the Press" on NBC. But now "This Week" is winding up in third place more often than not on most Sundays. On Sunday, Sept. 19, for instance, the show not only plummeted to third place, behind "Meet the Press" and CBS's "Face the Nation," but received the lowest ratings in the 25-54 demographic in more than seven years.

Her going to ABC to anchor a prestige program was promoted for months. The hype made sense. Amanpour, as familiar a brand as there is in TV journalism, was leaving CNN and joining one of the media's most respected news programs. She was a woman, a journalist warrior, intrepid, fearless, and exotic. She was everywhere ...

[Snip]

There's nothing cozy about her. Seated at her table, one would not dare laugh or take a poke at a fellow guest or, least of all, at the host. Her guests change from week to week, with the possible exception of George Will, to whom she is far less deferential than her predecessors. In fact, she's not deferential at all to anyone. She's polite, attentive but hardly warm. She's not "one of the boys." And there's the rub.

You stupid Freepers need to know that I'm a bomb because I'm a woman and many critics think this is a problem, and I have panache and a no-nonsense briskness, and I stay outside the Dee-Cee sandbox and am not invited to play - even though my producers set up all my interviews, write my questions, and politicians go after nitwork air time like bears take to honey.

The fact I am a flaming libtard with half a brain has absolutely nothing to do with the problem.

These idiots NEVER suspect that the reason ratings tank is that VIEWERS (who hold the remote) tune in for an experience that they LIKE. *IF* the experience is lousy, they leave, and maybe come back. If they come back and the experience is lousy again, they STAY AWAY.

ABC is retailing news content. They have a great store front with lots of traffic and the merchandiser and the merchandise are now driving customers away.

The CUSTOMER is NOT the problem. The merchandise and its merchandising IS.

GEESH.

The problem is not that she’s a woman, because that ain’t a woman. She and Rachel Maddow would make a lovely couple. They could be a talented team of obnoxious leftist hosts who interrupt their guests until no one is talking but them.

Americans, some newly politicized, are absorbed in saving their country by de-electing the wrecking crew in charge now. To this equation, ABC brings a foreigner with an accent - looking and sounding suspiciously middle eastern, whether she is or not. And not just any foreigner, but one who has made a career of disdaining the United States and blaming it for all the world’s ills.

What could go wrong?

For decades CNN shoved this woman down our throats, and you just had to take it, because CNN was a small-audience news provider, and they would keep her on the air whether anybody tuned in or not. Her function was to be the face of the CNN brand, and the fact that nobody was tuning in was not a problem. She just had to give the impression that CNN was more worldly, intelligent, in touch with the world and sophisticated that the viewership. The fact that none of this was true was unimportant. It was all about impressions.

But now she is at ABC, where she actually has to get a hold an audience in order to succeed. It is a different problem, and she will not be able to solve it. All she knows how to do is amp up the unpleasantness. Her response to failure will be to do what she did at CNN, only moreso, which is exactly the wrong response.

If somebody, who is demonstrably and obviously wrong about everything, is on ABC and telling me that I am an idiot, I’m going to switch over to NBC and never look back. Before long, the only people watching her show will be the hard-core masochists, and bedridden invalids who are unable to operate a remote control. That is not a very big market share.

Her arrogance and condescending attitude makes one want to throw things at the screen.

Her anti-American, anti-Israel, pro-Palestenian, pro-Arab spin on every story is disgusting.
The sooner she slinks away to join her compradores Peter Arnett and Bernard Shaw in obscurity the better.

When Media Companies decide they want viewers or readers its simple.

I can not understand how any company would allow this to happen to their bottom line.

I am still under the impression that no station in business would put this much dreck on the air without an ulterior motive.

On the bright side, by knowing who is watching this crap, we also know who is supporting our Anti Colonialist, white hating, African Incompetent Socialist in Chief.

I would say start with destroying the Journolistas, then going after the Commie organizations, then taking down union leadership and finally the college Marxists.

Most of these shows are no longer worth watching. I’d love to see a political talk show co-hosted by Britt Hume and Liz Cheney. I think it would be very worthwhile.

The hype made sense.

Really? Just another in a long line of anti-American "journalists"...this one from a failing network that is little noticed outside of airports and Europe...not terribly attractive, either...
