White House Pledges Flexibility on McDonald's Health Plan
WSJ ^ | SEPTEMBER 30, 2010, 9:47 P.M. ET | JANET ADAMY

Posted on 09/30/2010 7:12:27 PM PDT by STONEWALLS

The Obama administration said Thursday that its top health official will "exercise her discretion" in enforcing a new health-law requirement, a move that could help McDonald's Corp. and other employers from disrupting their health-care policies for hourly workers.

The announcement Thursday followed a report in The Wall Street Journal that McDonald's warned federal regulators it could drop its health-insurance plan for nearly 30,000 restaurant workers unless regulators waive a new requirement of the health overhaul. The requirement, known as the minimum medical loss ratio, concerns the percentage of revenue received from premiums that must be spent on benefits.

McDonald's is among the retailers and restaurant chains that offer a "mini-med" limited benefit. Most of these plans don't meet a 2011 requirement that they spend 80% to 85% of premiums on medical benefits instead of overhead expenses.

McDonald's last week sent a top official at the Department of Health and Human Services a memo saying "it would be economically prohibitive for our carrier to continue offering" its "mini-med" limited benefit plan unless it got an exemption from the requirement.

Exactly....what in the hell did the the congress people THINK they were DOING to all of us when they voted for that monster monstrosity designed to bring American medicine, the BEST IN THE WORLD, to its knees. Forcing it to surrender all independence to a government run by people, BAD PEOPLE, like sibilious (sp) and her minions. It is sick.

Sarah was right. First there are the money handlers like sibilious and then there are the death panels. Just look at England for a perfect example of the medical hell where traitors in our congress are laying upon us....it is so wrong.

We are no longer a nation under law, but under the whim of the ‘discretion’ of our government.

And this is only the beginning of this healthcare crap.

Give me liberty or give me death panels.

So now we live in a society in which we are subject to the whims of political appointees.

Yup. Couldn't agree more. The story isn't so much about McDonald's, it's that we now live in a nation run by criminals where "the law" is basically a worthless notion, being enforced or otherwise in an arbitrary and capricious manner by political goons.

Now the dems will shout from the rooftops how they saved McDonalds employee’s health care. They will naturally disregard that they imperiled it in the first place.

Gawd, what a great cartoon that would make. I HOPE a syndicated comic strip writer does it!

“exercise her discretion”

So now we live in a society in which we are subject to the whims of political appointees. My country of birth doesn’t really exist anymore.

BTTT.

McDonald's gets an exemption from this onerous law at the merest whim of an administrator, and other companies are forced to comply?

It's outrageous. It's disgusting.

The behavior is certainly typical of the Democrats, but the scale and the brazenness of this instance is breathtaking.

Chicago-style politics at a national level is a national disgrace.

“According to Michael Moore, McDonald’s is a bigger threat to America than Terrorism.”

That’s odd, seeing as how Moore looks like their best customer.

So 0bama is already caving to Big Business Corporate Polluters and Oppressors?

The left can’t be happy about that.
Especially with it being the nefarious McDonald’s.
Can caving to Wal-Mart be far behind?

Actually the real news in this is that the Dir of Health and Human Services has been given this kind of power. How much in donations to the DNC will buy this exemption.

According to our constitution, the President is not supposed to make laws on his own.

Ya think? I wonder if enough Americans even understand this.

So much for being a nation of laws. Now we are a nation of "discretion."

My medicare advantage plan is abolished. I can’t calculate the new cost yet because the procedure is very complex. I’ll post a thread describing the changes

The lie and the other lie and the other lie are in my mind capital crimes
