Judge's fury as he jails man who had 23 children by 14 different women for not paying support

A judge has jailed a man who fathered 23 children by 14 different women - then refused to pay support.

Judge Denis Lieber branded Howard Veal, 44, who owes more than $500,000 (£316,350) in child support, 'outrageous' and 'an insult to every responsible father'.

The judge in Grand Rapids, western Michigan, was so appalled that he far exceeded the state guidelines by sentencing Veal to up to four years.

The judge told him: 'You are the poster child for irresponsibility. You’re an insult to every responsible father who sacrifices to provide for their children.

'Animals procreate, human beings are supposed to nurture their children.'

Veal has barely worked at all over the years, instead choosing to live on benefits.

When he had a job for a few months last year, some money was taken from his wage to pay for his children, but it barely made a dent in what he owed.

The case against him stemmed from his guilty plea in July to owing one of the mothers - Sherri Black - more than $60,000 in child support. He’d paid just $87.75 over the years.

Veal told the court: 'I was paying money from my unemployment. I never chose not to pay.'

His attorney argued that he was seeking training to become employed so he could support his children.

Mr Veal’s pleas didn’t move Miss Black, the 38-year-old mother of two of his children, aged 16 and 11, who was delighted to see him going to prison.

She said: 'My daughter doesn’t even know him. I’m pleased he’s been jailed but, I’d rather have him pay the money. Now my taxes will go to support him in prison.

This is a perfect example how the breakdown of the family leads to more government involvement.

Let me see if I get this straight, so now not only are the taxpayers on the hook for supporting his kids, but now we are on the hook for his room, board and health care at the local jail for the next 4 years...

I wish that Octomom’s gynecologist would get the same treatment from this judge.

Debtors prison. The guy is a louse but locking him up solves nothing. He’s broke.

And an illustration of the fact that the “Macdaddy” phenomenon also claims the seed-spreader in the end as well.

It may be a bigass status symbol in the “hood” as a footloose teen, but if the cad ever grows up and decides to make a life for himself, child-support pounces.

They’re condemned to a life of off-the-books employment, homelessness and petty crime.

Of course Britain is much more generous with the welfare.

It’s not said here if some kind of probation program had ever been tried, to get at least token support from the fellow. He’s probably happy enough to laze around in jail while all his lovers get stiffed.

"'Animals procreate, human beings are supposed to nurture their children.'

"This is a perfect example how the breakdown of the family leads to more government involvement."I get called racist and bigot all the time, when I bring the subject of nearly 80% out-of-wedlock births for blacks (politically-correct for "African-Americans").

This irresponsiblity is consistent with a fourth-generation pattern of thinking they have "Rights" to handouts, and the earnings of others, and they could increase their welfare benefits/child support subsidies by having more illegitimite offspring, and continue the cycle.

I will hereby place a $100 dollar bet that Miss Black has never in her entire life been a net taxpayer. Any takers?

true and very depressing to hear.... the silver lining is that maybe this will prevent another 8 or 9 children being born.
