Castle rules out write-in race

Congressman Mike Castle will not launch a write-in campaign for the U.S. Senate seat he once was heavily favored to win. castle Castle had been considering the option of running as a write-in candidate since his lost to Tea Party favorite Christine O’Donnell in Delaware’s Republican primary election.

“While I would have been honored to represent Delaware in the U.S. Senate, I do not believe that seeking office in this manner is in the best interest of all Delawareans. Therefore, it’s time for Jane (his wife) and me to begin thinking about the next chapter of our lives,” Castle said in a statement Wednesday evening.

Castle, who’s had a long political career (nine-term Representative, governor, lieutenant governor and state legislator), said he had been encouraged by people in his state who wanted him to fight on and that he had carefully considered their viewpoints.

“I understand why people care so deeply about this election,” said Castle, one of the last Republican moderates in Congress.

How about endorsing the winner now, Mr. Castle?

The only reason Castle bowed out is because he was actually taking votes away from Coon.

He’s a disgusting person.

I wonder how much RNC money went in to the polling to figure that out?

Ask Karl Rove or Larry Steele. Look for Murkowski to follow Castle soon, since she is hurting the Dem in Alaska more than the actual American.

So, will this latest move help or hurt Christine’s chances for victory, on November 2?

The democrats begged him not to run because polls showed he would siphon votes from the democrat candidate, not O’Donnell. He happily agreed.

Those who plan to vote for O’Donnell probably won’t switch to that clown Coons. I don’t think it will change the dynamics all that much. Castle was robbing votes from Coons.

Hence, the lack of endorsement.

Exactly. There will be none. He hated her from the onset. Hated her even more that she won. Obama calls him up to moan about his loss. Dems begging him not to run because it’ll screw up their candidate’s votes and give O’Donnell an assured victory.

Thank God this old tool has decided to retire. Yes, it is hard to give up on the narcotic that is power. However at age 70 it’s time for Castle to go into his golden years and take up bridge or something.

NOT running as a write-in is the more honorable thing to do, regardless of why he chose not to do it.

And even if O’Donnell loses, I don’t think it will cost Republicans the Senate. Too many other possibilities in play to assume that.

too bad, if he had entered it would of probably helped O'Donnell by splitting the liberal vote. Once he figured that out though he probably didn't want to help her win it.

>>He hated her from the onset. Hated her even more that she won.<<

I fail to understand this hatred. He ran a campaign where he refused to acknowledge her very existense. He refused to debate her. And what ultimately defeated him, he refused to go before the voters to answer questions.

The arrogance of elitism did him in.

The arrogance of elitism did him in.

That explains it right there. That's exactly why he hates her. He absolutely believes he was entitled to the nomination, if not the seat itself, and in his mind she stole it from him.

She had no right to even register her candidacy!

Sheesh, I can almost hear him grousing about moaning about how hard he's worked and sacrificed "serving the people of Delaware" who then allowed this thieving crook to waltz in and snatch away his just reward.

Change the name and you have Murkowski's lament as well.
