A Dark Horse Emerges in Alaska: The Incumbent
NYT ^ | 9/27/10 | William Yardley

So why do plenty of people here, from analysts to many rank-and-file Republicans, think that Ms. Murkowski, 53, who first came to office through the easiest route imaginable (her father, then the governor, appointed her in 2002), could well pull off the impossible?

Because in a matter of weeks, she has morphed from establishment incumbent to renegade underdog. For many, it might seem crushing to go from sitting senator to plaintive write-in, but Ms. Murkowski is using it to her advantage, painting herself as the maverick in this race.

We should not let this race slips away. Murkowski sits on a million dollars of Republican money that she's gonna use to defeat Miller. The state's law that allows people to write anything resembles 'Lisa Murkowski' doesn't help Miller. Donate your money to Joe Miller. His target is only around $400K, although he surely needs at least $1m immediately.

Joe Miller for US Senate

The good news is that write-ins never work,
most voters are too lazy to do it if they have a good choice on the ballot, and Joe miller is a good one.

I thought that the name had to be spelled correctly. If not, this is a very different race.

That’s half of it. The other half is to identify who is aiding her, “outing” them, and making sure that they know that if they don’t cease & desist, they’ll never work in politics again. That is unless they want to serve the other side - which they are doing right now.

From RCP: “9/28/10 — What little polling we have seems to show Miller with a substantial lead in the three-way race. Murkowski actually seems to be splitting the anti-Miller vote with McAdams. In addition, she’s having some troubles with the write-in campaign; the early campaign ad that actually misspelled her last name sums up the difficulties she faces.”

I think she is toast and is hurting the dem more than Miller. If the

My understanding is that Alaska's law looks at "voter intent" as the controlling factor.

Did Lieberman win as a write in, or did he appear on the ballot as an independent?

Agree that Miller is a good candidate, I just wonder what pull Murkowski family might have amongst family loyalists.

Renegade underdog? How melodramatic! Ms Murkowski is a spoiled brat of a poor sport and they want to paint her as a victim? Joe Miller is very bright, articulate and right on all points good for the country! Go Joe Miller!

Joe L. was ON the ballot.

OTOH, in TX-22 the GOP screwed it so bad they only had a write-in, and even that 2-to-1 GOP dsitrct went Dem in 2006.

Joe Miller is a hundred times smarter and a patriot. The sore losing whiner RINO witch is pathetic.

“Joe L. was ON the ballot.”

Ok, that is good to know. That will be a steeper hill to climb then. IIRC Lieberman’s Democrat opponent was an extreme (back then anyway) left kook.
