U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson has been subpoenaed to testify on Oct. 21 in a civil case that claimed he paid roughly $40,000 to a consulting company created by a tea party activist.
The case stemmed from defamation lawsuit filed by tea party activist and longtime conservative campaign consultant Doug Guetzloe against three people who claimed that Guetzloe and his Tea Party of Florida group hijacked the name of the national tea party movement.
The defendants' lawyer Wade Vose, on the other hand, claimed Guetzloe helped form a consulting company called Public Opinion Strategies with financial backing from Grayson.
My clients are concerned that this is an attempt to split the conservative vote in this November's elections. The subpoena compels Congressman Grayson to produce all of his written and electronic communications with Doug Guetzloe, Vose said.
Grayson's involvement in the case raises the doubts that he could be working with the tea party to try to draw votes away from his Republican challenger Dan Webster, the lawyer said.
A release from Guetzloe's group, the Tea Party of Florida, called the depositions bogus and said it is taking legal action to try to delay Grayson's testimony until after the election.
Grayson denied working with Guetzloe.
These people are dragging me into their petty squabbles. I am not working with Doug Guetzloe, Grayson said.
Tea Party candidate Peg Dunmire, whom Guetzloe is backing, denied working with Grayson.
I am absolutely not working with anyone, including Alan Grayson, to split any vote to help Grayson's re-election. I intend to win this race, Dunmire said.
Can we have some FReeper background and perspective of this? Surely there are people here in the know.
This happened in Michigan over the summer. A couple of Democrat party officials and union officials registered and notarized a bunch of fake “TEA party” candidates to drain votes away from Republicans. The Oakland County clerk, Ruth Johnson, who is running against Soros’ candidate Joslyn Benson for Secretary of State (part of the SOS project to gain control of all 50 Secretaries of State) caught it. It went through the courts and eventually was halted and they didn’t get on the ballot.
Grayson could use the insanity defense to duck the subpoena.
I look forward to when Grayson loses his cool and calls the judge...”Judge Taliban”.
“Soros candidate Joslyn Benson for Secretary of State (part of the SOS project to gain control of all 50 Secretaries of State) “
Isn’t it illegal for a foreigner to pull stunts like that with the US electoral process???
Say it under oath, Pig Boy.
Grayson the nutter that was in a mental institute back in 1988 .
This is the phony tea partiers who worked by Grayson’s group .
Veeeerrrry interesting.
If this was bogus he should be eager to testify....
I wouldn't be surprised if anyone running as a member of a "Tea Party" is bogus.
But I haven't been paying that much attention to all 50 states, and I don't know.
No kidding!!! He is CERTIFIABLY INSANE!!
A release from Guetzloe's group, the Tea Party of Florida, called the depositions bogus and said it is taking legal action to try to delay Grayson's testimony until after the election.
If he really wanted to win, why wouldn't he want a deposition that could hurt Grayson to happen before the election?
More importantly, if he is telling the truth, why wouldn't he want Grayson to testify to prove he's telling the truth, BEFORE the election?
The only reason to delay the deposition is if he is lying, and if he wants Grayson to win the election.
I cant think of any real tea party candidates running independent of the GOP, but I am not knowledgeable enough to say none exist. I'm pinging Syncro because he will probably know the answer.
Here in Virginia, in VA-5, (Charlottesville area), we have a tea party activist running as an independent for Perriello's congressional seat because he lost in the GOP primary. I dont know if anyone has endorsed him, but right now it looks like his task is hopeless--the RINO candidate is polling very well.
