I doubt Ravi is g*y but who would want to watch that anyway? Maybe Ravi is gay. I think Ravi may have been sick of being asked for privacy. He could have said NO. Go to a hotel or something.
Hopefully Ravi will get 5 to 10 in NJ state prison to find out if he is g*y or not.
I agree with other people that the kid should have gone to a hotel. The universities should say no sex in dorms. Students should be able to tell their roommate - no. Go to a hotel. There should be dorm monitors who say no. It is totally screwed up. Colleges are now like 4 year babysitting services.
I still think what Ravi and “Molly” did was awful, they should get jail time and they shoul dbe banned from all U.S. universities including online uni’s.
Let them go through life with no degree.
“I agree. I dont understand how so many people posting in this thread dont think there was anything wrong with broadcasting this guy and his gay paramour live on the internet WITHOUT their knowledge or permission. I dont get it.”
I am definitely not saying that broadcasting this student on the internet was okay. There is nothing in my posts that reflect that statement.
I am merely commenting on the “state of affairs” (pun intended) in our society and how best to prepare our children for these types of situations on College Campuses.
Pretending this is some isolated incident is really dangerous. And, yes, I would guess Ravi is not “homophobic”. Most young people are not.. But, a lot of them are quite self absorbed and that doesn’t bode well for considering the other guys feelings or emotions.
The expectation also includes not being live streamed on the internet in your room. Hopefully Ravi will have 5 to 10 years in NJ state prison to work on his own sexuality. I doubt he will get much privacy.
The Uni should say no to any sex in the dorms. Get an apt off campus or a hotel room.
Disappointed? I think it was more like “violated”. And don’t get me wrong, his homosexuality gets no sympathy from me, but still his roommate had no right to video him and to broadcast it on the internet.

On that we agree entirely.
“The Uni should say no to any sex in the dorms. Get an apt off campus or a hotel room.”
LOL uh hum
Personal responsibility and teaching someone how to take care of themselves starts with the individual. We live and die by our choices in life.
If a child is not mature enough to handle a University setting, send them to a Junior College or a local Community College for a couple of years.. Set them up for success..not failure.
I am amazed how immature and irresponsible some of these students can be in every day life situations. Drugs, alcohol, pregnancies, lack of responsibility, personal problems and etc. The worse part, of course, is the lack of discipline when it comes to their studies and the expense they are extracting from their parents or the system.
A good number of them aren’t prepared academically...another good argument for Junior Colleges which can help in that area.
Ravi and his victim have more in common than you might think. Both of them made some really stupid choices.
I should've expanded on my "gut feeling" statement above:
If you pick out a random person in that age group, or a random student at your typical large, "diverse" public university in a left-leaning urban area, you'll probably find someone without too many objections to LGBT things in the world and around campus.
OK, you'll definitely find a good number of people who use "gay" in ways not approved by Wanda Sykes, but the majority of those will find nothing wrong with same-sex unions either. They probably supported (and still support) Obama, use Jon Stewart as a news source (why not--he must be serious, since he's not very funny), and consider the Repressed Religious Right more risible and more dangerous than most anyone on the left.
Even those in his age group who object to homosexuality for one reason or another (I attended a large, left-leaning public university not all that long ago, and I knew a lot of people like that) are probably not going to tape someone for the sake of somehow promoting the general welfare. Has it ever occurred to anyone here to do anything like that for that reason?
It's more likely that Ravi, like many others his age, considers secretly recorded sex acts inherently amusing, and in his case, he went ahead and recorded it. I'd even bet that if no one had found out beyond those whom he wanted to find out, he would've done it again at the next opportunity.
That would be my bet too.
I'd even bet that if no one had found out beyond those whom he wanted to find out, he would've done it again at the next opportunity.
Apparently he did do it again. That's what the lead-in article to this thread is about. A second victim.
I do not disagree. The parents are usually helicopter parents who shutlle them to ball games, clubs and other garbage. They never learn responsibility. The helicopter parents show up at college to make sure the kids have everything.
The school should have a no sex in the dorms policy. The liberal media will is turning it into a gay bullying societal problem and Ravi will be exonerated because he is troubled, may partially be a “homophobe” or some excuse.
If you think that, you have no clue what Rutgers has become in recent years.
This explains all the sex in the dorms as well.
Why did they "Have to know it"? Was it tattooed on his forehead? Was there a paragraph about it in the dorm rules for him specifically?
People get crap done to them all the time without jumping off bridges.
You are asserting they knew Clementi would off himself.
Give us a link to your source on that.
Or did you make it up?
You wouldn't be mean enough to make something like that up about someone you don't know would you?
If Ravi didn’t wanta give up his room for his roommates privacy, he could have said no, asked for a new roommate, made a fuss.
Instead the creep did a despicable thing. Whether the student who suicided was gay or straight or liked farm animals is not the issue.
This act was the act of a hideous person, not an immature person, but a person without empathy for others, with no conscience who took a delight in humiliating another for his amusement. He deserves whatever comes.
And I worked in a U for 16 years, kids routinely ask for privacy to conduct romances in their rooms. And it is a pain for roommates who are offended. They can voice their objections, refuse to leave, act like adults and extricate themselves. They don’t need to go this route.
I utterly disagree. In point of fact, this is a sort of prank that has been glorified ad nauseum by Hollywood - the original M*A*S*H movie coming to mind immediately.
This is a sort of thing that has been portrayed as being funny in the world we live in by the popular culture since I was a child. This taping sex and playing it back to the world thing specifically.
What else has come out about Ravi, from any source that supports this?
This whole lynch mob mentality that you are participating in is every bit as vile as the mentality you are accusing the two students who put the video online of having.
What they did was crass and wrong, but it was not the fiendish plan of a monster.
What they did was illegal.
They deserve the maximum penalty given their “prank” resulted in a suicide.
I am not advocating lynching. Merely justice carried out.
What are you suggesting? No charges. A chuckle over boys being boys? A slap on the hand.
Secret taping of people having sex when you have consented to leave them alone is not a “prank”. It is vile.
But the law will decide on that. Are you agreed it should?
The charge carries a maximum of five years. These kids have never been in trouble before, by all the stories on this I have seen.
I would say maybe three to six months served someplace where they won't be raped compounding the tragedy - likely a minimum security federal facility, and parole with a correctional officer who will insure counseling.
Certainly not the five or ten years nonsense some are spouting on these threads.
I say we let justice unfold, let the judge order a presentence investigation which should enable him to decide what this Ravi deserves. We dont know much about Ravi other than he was reportedly delighted to get the tape and post it and did the same thing to someone else. His friends saying he was a nice guy is not a good investigation.
Let justice just happen and we will see.
Deal.
I don’t particularly think homosexuals ever fit in society particularly well but suicide isn’t anyway out for anyone.
Rutgers is a sewer.
