A 12-year-old boy who neighbors describe as a "little monster" was shot by a woman apparently upset at the boy and others for throwing bricks at her Southeast Side home Tuesday evening.

The shooting happened about 5:25 p.m. near East 76th Street and South Coles Avenue and sent a juvenile to University of Comer Children's Hospital in serious to critical condition, Fire Media Affairs spokesman Richard Rosado said.

A woman believed to be in her late 60s or early 70s fired the shot. She remained in police custody Tuesday night but police said she may not be charged because she may have fired shots in self-defense.

She told police the injured boy and others had thrown bricks at her house. She chased the boys and fired shots after the children would not put the bricks down, a police source said.

Each child had a brick in their hands, but the boy shot is believed to have been the only one who succeeded in breaking a window at the residence, police said.

Neighbors said the boy is a known troublemaker and the head of a small neighborhood gang.

"This little boy started a fire in her grill, burned out her garbage can .. he was a little terror," said neighbor Hilda Brunt. "This has been going on for weeks."

At least one of the boys is telling a different story.

"One minute I'm playing basketball with my friend, the next minute I see him with a bloody arm," said 15-year-old Jordan Heard.

Calumet Area detectives are investigating.

>The poor kid was trying to turn his life round by learning how to do a proper home invasion.

He had an application in for the local SWAT team?

Well, you see it’s because the police aren’t happy not having a monopoly on deadly force, and they also realize that these
actual criminals* are those who need protection while it is someone who dares stand up for themselves who must be slain.
