The odds-on favorite to win the GOP presidential nod in 2012 is none other than Sarah Palin, according to a statistical formula developed by Villanova University Prof. Lara Brown. The professor's figuring is bad news for presumed hopefuls like Rep. Mike Pence, Sen. Jim DeMint, ex-Gov. Mitt Romney, former Speaker Newt Gingrich, Gov. Haley Barbour, and former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton. Many simply joined the game too late, says Brown, author of the new book Jockeying for the American Presidency: The Political Opportunism of Aspirants, which studies every election since the founding. Others, like DeMint, are still brewing but won't be ready until 2016. As for Newt? "I don't think the GOP can forgive him," she says.
The book devises an "opportunism variable" based on the candidate's résumé to explain who wins the presidency and why. Palin has an advantage because she has been elected both mayor and governor. She also was a major party vice presidential nominee, giving her an enviable breadth of political experience. According to Brown, candidates who take risks and run for a variety of offices do well. It's even better if they lose a presidential race or two. "It takes about a run and a half to get there," Brown says. Pols "may think they can get it done in six months or a year, but [winning] will actually take them running, losing, and planting seeds," she says.
If Sarah Palin runs just to piss you off, that will be good enough for me. :-p
You know? That is your style, little zings and distractions, like some little petulant girl that can’t man up, but wants to hiss a little anyway, while twirling her pig tails.
Yep. I’m going into this fully expecting that the enemy will be within. They don’t like losing their old guard power. Not one bit. And I think they think if they can squash Sarah for 2012, they can squash the Tea Party movement altogether.
Yes.
Don't you need to get back to the island?
LOL.
“Why would she want to take a cut in pay?”
********************
She values the future of her country more than adding to her now fat bank account. Get a clue before you ask such a ridiculous question.
Hey. I make mistakes and miscalculations all the time.
EXACTLY!
It’s not a distraction to say that it’s OK for her to make $$$.
Those are interesting thoughts. I’d love for Sarah to be POTUS but on the other hand I have to say it’s a job I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy...well, almost. Saw a poll the other day showing her negatives almost as high as her positives - that could be a lot to overcome.
Sarah is affecting our country in a huge way just by Facebook, Twitter, endorsing candidates, cheerleading. She is shifting us right and the rats have no choice but to re-think what they’re doing.
I bet the DNC is cursing McCain daily for picking her for the national spotlight.
I think we will get through November well. But...you know there are enemies on both sides that will fight Sarah.
If Jim DeMint stops the lame ducks from passing their crap after the election, he will be right up there with Palin very quickly.
To tell you something about his/her anti-conservative politics, he is a big homosexual agenda guy.
I like DeMint. He’s said he’s not interested in running for president, and I guess I’m going to believe him.
Buck?
Here’s an idea my FRiend, instead of trotting out the usual ‘Rabs is a PaulBot, Rabs has horrible judgment’, etc., perhaps you could explain to us WHY Sarah Palin should automatically receive our support when her own words (quoted accurately in Rabs’ post #2) suggest that she is certainly NOT a consistent conservative?
Sure, she supported O’Donnell in Delaware, we all want O’Donnell to win. She has supported other conservatives, and likewise: we want them to win.
She has also supported abominable RINOs, to the exclusion of better qualified conservative candidates.
C’mon, anyone can call Rabs a ‘PaulBot’ (which isn’t even accurate these days), but why not address the legitimate question of Sarah Palin’s conservative credentials?
Any potential candidate that says that she ‘shares John McCain’s vision for America’ is no conservative in my book.
In last month’s primary in Arizona, she had the unmitigated gall to actually call McCain a “REAL CONSERVATIVE”, surely you don’t buy into that, now do you?
What it comes down to, is that if Sarah Palin is stupid enough to believe that John McCain is a conservative, then she has no business as the GOP nominee, and certainly no business as the President of the United States. On the other hand, if she fully understands that John McCain is NOT a conservative, that he does NOT represent the best interests of these United States, and yet she went ahead and lied in his behalf, annointing him as a conservative when she knew it wasn’t true, that would establish that she is a prevaricator, a manipulator, and someone not to be trusted when it comes to conservative values.
If you think I’m wrong about this, I’d appreciate you explaining it to me, because I believe at this juncture that Sarah Palin is a.) not qualified to serve as President, and b.) will lead the GOP to a 1964 style debacle if she is nominated.
