The odds-on favorite to win the GOP presidential nod in 2012 is none other than Sarah Palin, according to a statistical formula developed by Villanova University Prof. Lara Brown. The professor's figuring is bad news for presumed hopefuls like Rep. Mike Pence, Sen. Jim DeMint, ex-Gov. Mitt Romney, former Speaker Newt Gingrich, Gov. Haley Barbour, and former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton. Many simply joined the game too late, says Brown, author of the new book Jockeying for the American Presidency: The Political Opportunism of Aspirants, which studies every election since the founding. Others, like DeMint, are still brewing but won't be ready until 2016. As for Newt? "I don't think the GOP can forgive him," she says.
The book devises an "opportunism variable" based on the candidate's résumé to explain who wins the presidency and why. Palin has an advantage because she has been elected both mayor and governor. She also was a major party vice presidential nominee, giving her an enviable breadth of political experience. According to Brown, candidates who take risks and run for a variety of offices do well. It's even better if they lose a presidential race or two. "It takes about a run and a half to get there," Brown says. Pols "may think they can get it done in six months or a year, but [winning] will actually take them running, losing, and planting seeds," she says.
Yes, because we need more idol worship threads here on FR, especially since the fact that Bush is now gone makes the “Pray for Bush” threads even less stimulating than they were before. /sarc
Looking....LOL.
You really don’t know anything about politics do you, and how did you get “mentor” out of that?
If she runs, she will move to the top. If she runs she will be elected.
Last night Rush let it be known early who he supports. None of the others will be able to catch her with that kind of endorsement.
She’s not going to run.
The electoral landscape is devastatingly different than 2008.
In 2008 it was a referendum on Bush (war and financial crisis).
In 2012 it will be about the economy/deficits, the southern border, and a deceitful - socialist - and destructive - administration.
The nomination/election will be won by the candidate who the voters will ‘BELIEVE’ has the GUTS and TRACK RECORD to demonstrate they WILL FIGHT to do what is necessary to turn this country around!
There in ONLY ONE candidate who has shown they have the COJONES to FIGHT AGAINST ALL ODDS!
I don’t have to say the name because it will be patently obvious to anyone. No one else comes even close! I rest my case!
I guess subtlety wasn’t working, eh?
ROFL.
I have divided emotions on this.
Sadly, we need someone who can generate enthusium and attract crowds. I say sadly because it is the nature of most people to be attracted to such candidates (see BHO circa 2008). It’s often a matter style, not substance, for the electorate. Not that I don’t think Sarah has substance. She certainly does.
None of the other candidates have the “crowd generating” quality she has. I like the ideas of some, but really don’t see the charisma.
On the other hand, she maybe more valuable in the role she currently occupies. She certainly has full range to speak her mind. That would be silenced in a presidential campaign.
If I were her, or any other candidate, I wouldn’t want the job. It’s pretty well darned if you do don’t. But I’m glad some people are willing to take the abuse.
Would I vote for her...yeah. A debate between Sarah and the Won could be very interesting.
Of course. I mean, no one has to come out with a study or a poll for me to know who I will vote for in 2012. If Sarah is there, she gets my vote. And those idiots in the GOP better understand that right now before they even think of putting Romney up as our candidate.
But, right now, because of Rove and friends, I fear the old guard will try to give us anyone but Sarah. It’s not the Dems we have to worry about, it’s the old Republicans.
Roadkill. He thinks he's clever, but he's only....................Roadkill.
Ah another voice from the peanut gallery.
