I doubt that Lisa Murkowski will be supporting a fillibuster. I don’t know about Bob Bennett. If we can get the seats in Delaware, New York, Connecticut, West Virginia and Illinois, it won’t matter. My understanding is that those seats get filled on November 3rd.

This happened in 1980 as well.

Surely Arizonans are considering this...

IMHO, Lame Duck sessions should only be convened if there is some sort of national emergency. Anything else is subversion of the electorate.

“My understanding is that those seats get filled on November 3rd.”

That is my understanding, as well.

They need the numbers (and that could mean help from some Democrats) to do that. Be afraid.

Agreed, or just allow for a special session under unusual circumstances. Regardless of whether Republican incumbents (possibly including a few RINOS that didn’t make it past this year’s primary, remember) can stop the bills, they should raise hell and throw as many spanners into the works as possible.

...and if there are some surviving blue dog Democrats participating in the lame duck session, Republicans should mark them well and pounce if they cave in once again to that bitch Pelosi.

Yet another reason why O’Donnell and Raese need to win in November in the special elections.

I believe I said something like that. No disagreement.

Another dark of the night, smokey room (not cigars), rush-rush, sneak attack on America.

Note that the Democrats' shopping list did not include:

1. Cap & tax

2. Card check

Both of which they are anxious to pass before they have to give up the gavel. Not to mention...

3. A friggin' budget -- which they steadfastly avoided even talking about prior to the mid-term election for fear of having to defend what will be an insanely bloated creature.

This is pathetic. These cretins can't be sent home soon enough.

Sadly, I won’t be surprised if some of the RINOs who are on the way out stand with the Demo-rats and help pass the bills as a final “up yours” to those who voted them out.

If our guys can’t at least filibuster and stall this stuff for two lousy months, they aren’t worth a _ _ _ _.

If you can't trust Collins, Snowe, McCain, and their ilk to protect America, who can you trust?

To my Republican friends in Congress I urge you to use every Parliamentary trick in the book to stop as many of these as you can. Who cares if they call us The Party of NO? They will call us that regardless. Just stop this madness. Really be the party of NO to the destruction of America.

Lame duck sessions should be banned, by the Constitution if necessary.

It would probably require an Amendment.

There's no reason for Congress to reconvene after an election.

There is no logical reason for Congress to be in session more than three months a year, if that long. I suppose they meet year round for the convenience of the money men, the lobbyists. Otherwise the lobbyists would have to spend money on offices all over and even then the sparsely populated districts would be hard to get to without being overly conspicuous. It is much better to bring the money takers all to one convenient place.

But I agree, a lame duck Congress passing controversial bills is not cool.

And we will show the American people what they are all about.

I agree. The Texas Legislature meets for 140 days, every two years. Next year, it will be from 2011-01-11 to 2011-05-30.

The Governor can call special sessions, for specific reasons. It happens occasionally. But in general, the legislators do their duty, then go back home to their job(s).
