There is no logical reason for Congress to be in session more than three months a year, if that long. I suppose they meet year round for the convenience of the money men, the lobbyists.

I agree. The Texas Legislature meets for 140 days, every two years. Next year, it will be from 2011-01-11 to 2011-05-30.

The Governor can call special sessions, for specific reasons. It happens occasionally. But in general, the legislators do their duty, then go back home to their job(s).
