Fox primary: complicated, contractual
Politico ^ | JONATHAN MARTIN & KEACH HAGEY

With Sarah Palin, Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum and Mike Huckabee all making moves indicating they may run for president, their common employer is facing a question that hasn’t been asked before: How does a news organization cover White House hopefuls when so many are on the payroll?

The answer is a complicated one for Fox News. As Fox’s popularity grows among conservatives, the presence of four potentially serious Republican candidates as paid contributors is beginning to frustrate competitors of the network, figures within its own news division and rivals of what some GOP insiders have begun calling “the Fox candidates.”

With the exception of Mitt Romney, Fox now has deals with every major potential Republican presidential candidate not currently in elected office.

The matter is of no small consequence, since it’s uncertain how other news organizations can cover the early stages of the presidential race when some of the main GOP contenders are contractually forbidden to appear on any TV network besides Fox.

C-SPAN Political Editor Steve Scully said that when C-SPAN tried to have Palin on for an interview, he was told he had to first get Fox’s permission — which the network, citing her contract, ultimately denied. Producers at NBC, ABC, CBS, CNN and MSNBC all report similar experiences.

At issue are basic matters of political and journalistic fairness and propriety. With Fox effectively becoming the flagship network of the right and, more specifically, the tea party movement, the four Republicans it employs enjoy an unparalleled platform from which to speak directly to primary voters who will determine the party’s next nominee.

The whine from the MSM is growing louder. They habitually sandbag and manipulate Republican candidates to destroy conservatives by character assassination, and denigrate their positions.

Then they are upset when Republicans appear on Fox in similar arraingments to those of the Marxist DemoRats that appear on all the leftist Media.

Newt and Huckabee don’t have a prayer.

True, but this whine is about the MSM not being able to pick the Pubbie candidate. They would pick the Huck in a heartbeat, and you know why.

Was there this much outrage when Begala and Carville hosted the Democratic Party Power Hour, aka Crossfire, on CNN during the Bush administration?

Maybe if the MSM were a bit more fair and balanced, they wouldn't have created a hostile environment for Conservative candidates, therefore running them over to FOX news.

Little Miss perky katie couric waded in with a claws-extended attack on Sarah Palin; given that and all of the other MSM attacks on Sarah and her family, I don't think Sarah is going to knock down the doors to interact with the MSM anymore than she must.

Funny that the MSM doesn't say a word when obama only visits and talks to his "friendlies", where he feels comfortable, but he helps to slam the Conservatives and FOX news for doing anything remotely similar.

If you get the willow branch across your backside at grandma's house, you're not going to visit grandma very often...it's call "human nature" and "self-preservation".

No, these shills have done it to themselves, by a constant program of marginalizing the normal and pushing abnormal foreheads and snakeheads as their talking heads. Now it's bit 'em in the butt.

Conservative candidates will get the usual treatment from the state-run media: ridicule, anal exam of their character from birth, making sure they are painted in the worst possible light, etc.
I don’t know why conservative candidates appear on any of these failing Democrat-supporting networks.

Re #6:

I agree, but protest your analogy. The attacks on Sarah were vicious, designed to be fatal, and a huge mistake.

Sarah went in as an earnest serving citizen, and came out an educated leader and the chosen slayer of American Marxism.

YES! And everytime a candidate is challenged on why they won’t appear on other networks list several reasons. Like:

Why should I submit myself to a line of questioning that a liberal Democrat is never subjected to?

President Obama doesn’t answer any hard questions from the MSM. Why should I?

***Network News is dying. The audience is disappearing faster than Lindsay Lohans career. I am only interested in the new and growing media outlets.

How does a news organization cover White House hopefuls when so many are on the payroll?

But....but...but didn't the White House say that FOX "...wasn't a news organization" a while back?

Exactly. As soon as they declare they are running for office, Fox drops them from the payroll.

“..Why should I submit myself to a line of questioning that a liberal Democrat is never subjected to?..”

Another approach would be to go on the offensive against the “journalist” that is prejudiced e.g. AmanPOOR’s questioning of McConnell (or was it Boehner). example:

“I notice that you seem to have a certain antagonistic tone toward the views of our party that I have not noticed in your questioning of ———. That approach enforces the belief of a majority of the American people that much of the media, your network included, is in bed with the Democrats. Now that I’ve said that, I will answer your question.”

Would that torque their jaws or not? It would be a stand up and cheer moment. Of course, the interviewee would need to have super clean shorts, because the libtard media would be in his garbage can, etc. in a concerted effort to dirty him up. Agnew learned that. Remember “An effete corps of impudent snobs”? Still applies today!

So many language control edicts are issued by the radical left that even Politico can't remember to always use the BO approved Newspeak.

I would pay and donate to see a attitude like that, well planned and well executed.
