As the privacy controversy around full-body security scans begins to simmer, its worth noting that courthouses and airport security checkpoints arent the only places where backscatter x-ray vision is being deployed. The same technology, capable of seeing through clothes and walls, has also been rolling out on U.S. streets.
American Science & Engineering, a company based in Billerica, Massachusetts, has sold U.S. and foreign government agencies more than 500 backscatter x-ray scanners mounted in vans that can be driven past neighboring vehicles to see their contents, Joe Reiss, a vice president of marketing at the company told me in an interview. While the biggest buyer of AS&Es machines over the last seven years has been the Department of Defense operations in Afghanistan and Iraq, Reiss says law enforcement agencies have also deployed the vans to search for vehicle-based bombs in the U.S.
This product is now the largest selling cargo and vehicle inspection system ever, says Reiss.

This is ominous. I’m sick of the War on Drugs being used as an excuse for government excesses.
Does that mean us guys are going to have to go around wearing rubber willies ?
If one were to assemble a list of the laws, governmental edicts and practices that obviously violate the Constitution, a document that resembled the "health Care" bill in size would result.
Conclusion? NO ONE in the government gives a hoot about the Constitution, except as it provides (minor) obstructions on the road to totalitarianism.
I have seen the portable units deployed at interstate truck stops.
I say good for the cops. Now they won’t have to hang out in the shrubbery at the nudist colony with their binoculars, and it’ll free up a lot of time to spend at Dunkin’ Donuts.

This is former congressman Emanuel Cellar’s wet dream from the 1960s when he wanted dome type of machine so cops could drive around, scan people looking for guns.
For those not in the know, it was Thomas J Dodd and Emanuel Cellar who proposed the first federal handgun registration schemes back in 1961.
dome = some
I think I’m starting to feel a little sick. :(
Sounds like “terrorism” not WOD.
Either way, it’s way out there into tyrant territory.
No sh*t, Sherlock.
Takes a professional to note a potential violation this subtle - don't try this at home, folks.
Next up, government attornies deny mass injections of newborns with antidepressants violate civil rights. Said one, "hey, you know they're going to be saying "no" once they reach age two. Not heading off this known problem amounts to child abuse."
On a related note, Child Protective Services is looking into arresting parents who deny their newborns this crucial emotional support. Said Officer Ratchett: "It's yer basic black-and-white decision about the wellbeing of the precious child asset, versus the screachings of mentally disturbed individuals who freely choose to refuse their corporate responsibilities towards the benefits of the group."
Lead paint will come back in style quick.
It will be just a matter of time till someone invents ( if not already) a body signal generator that will send out a false signal to the scanner. That bomb on the terrorist will look like some guy is just a little cubby. The scanner will be just for honest citizens , like gun control is.
“Is that a bomb in your pants or are you just happy to see me”.
Great, just what I need, some cop driving about in a van X-raying my junk.
See South Park episode “Medicinal Fried Chicken” for the possible consequences.
Big government has got to be curtailed. They will have us all living in rubber rooms with safety suits on if unchecked.
(dome) - I was thinking it looked like the cone of silence. ;)
Forget the government. Kids will have this stuff in two years. You should start getting in shape now so you don’t get laughed at.....
Hey, turns out the aluminum foil guys were right after all! (actually thinking more like steel plate)
