President Obama said Monday that his daughters could not get the same level of education from D.C. public schools that they receive at the elite private school they attend.
Obama, following a path chosen by some of his predecessors in the White House, chose to enroll his daughters Malia and Sasha in the Sidwell Friends School soon after he won the 2008 presidential election.
In an appearance Monday morning on NBC's "Today" show, Obama was asked by a woman in a television audience whether a public school in his home city could measure up to the standards of his children's private school.
"I'll be blunt with you: The answer is no right now," the president replied. The D.C. public schools, he said "are struggling."

I found the teachers to be mediocre...and finally learned...that school is for learning how to learn...and everyone learns differently.

I believe the Democrats shut down vouchers in DC back in 2006
Yet the Democrats (along with their willing accomplices in the GOP) steadfastly refuse to allow true competition in the education industry.
The Department of Education needs to be disbanded and the funds reallocated to a voucher system, barring the more Constitutional approach of total free market.
One reason the Republicrats and Demicans will never allow this - NEA.
BTW, the Bush girls attended a PUBLIC school.

Yes, it is the Obama’s that are DRIVING the LAPSE of federal vouchers for D.C. schools. It’s bull to believe they want to bring this back to life. Ever see THAT in the headlines?
Of course not.
Nothing will change until the Black culture changes and make education a priority like they did in the past. Like Asian, Indians, and other immigrants do so now.
I would start by kicking large numbers of idiots, gang bangers, kids with babies, druggies and other delinquents out the first week for just for starters. Then I would fire every single teacher and administrator, and hire college level professors to teach the students and pay them accordingly. I would force the teachers and administrators to wear suits and the students to wear uniforms and I would then hire top notch administrators and empower them to discipline using corporal punishment minor infractions and to expel permanently all troublemakers. I would then set up alternative schools for all the troublemakers and force the parents of those children to PAY for their child to be watched by armed police in every class room, these alternative schools would be more like prison that the parents pick up the bill for. Then I would get to work on the curriculum and strip everything not directly tied to the 3 R's.
And that's just for starters.
The first thing he did was cancel GW’s DC voucher program. Hope and Change for other Blacks?
