A testy U.S. Sen. John F. Kerry yesterday blamed clueless voters with short attention spans for the uphill battle beleaguered Democrats are facing against Republicans across the nation.
We have an electorate that doesnt always pay that much attention to whats going on so people are influenced by a simple slogan rather than the facts or the truth or whats happening, Kerry told reporters after touring the Boston Medical Center yesterday.
Conservative political blogger William Jacobson, who writes Legal Insurrection, immediately pounced on Kerrys comments, saying that attitude is why voters are looking to shake up Capitol Hill by electing upstart candidates such as U.S. Sen. Scott Brown.
It just continues the Democrats theme that the reason people are upset is because they dont understand. Theyre not smart enough. That sort of rhetoric just gets people even more upset, said Jacobson.
Democratic consultant Phil Johnston, former chairman of the state party, jumped to Kerrys defense, saying, Thats absurd. Hes just making the point that people have real lives to lead and most people are not spending a lot of time worrying about politics, particularly in a tough economy. Ive known John Kerry for 35 years and he doesnt look down on people.
Kerry made the remarks on voters following questions about U.S. Rep Barney Franks re-election campaign and queries about securing federal funding for the Hub hospital.
I think a lot of the anger today - while its appropriate because Washington is broken - is not directed at the right people, said Kerry. Barney is prepared, as others are, to explain what were doing. I think when people hear the facts and they see what were doing, it frankly makes sense.
In the interview, Kerry added that voters should be mad at stonewalling Republicans and big money in politics instead, referring to a bill blocked by Republicans Thursday that would reveal corporate and union leaders who fund big-bucks political ads.
He went on to blame the legislative logjam in Washington, D.C., for fewer federal dollars sent to the state.
John Feehery, a Washington D.C.-based Republican consultant, said Kerrys comments mark yet another embarrassing stumble for the gaffe-prone senior senator. In 2006, the former presidential candidate had to apologize for a statement he made at a California college that U.S. students who did not study hard and stay in school would end up stuck in Iraq.
I think that arrogance sums up why John Kerry didnt get elected president, Feehery said. Hes out of touch.
>>so people are influenced by a simple slogan
"YES WE CAN!"
The more informed US citizens get about the mess we're in and how much the feds are taking over our lives and destroying our futures, the lower Obama's ratings go.
What Senator Kerry should be yearning for is a totally uninformed voting public. That's the only way they'll support what Obama has done since taking office.
Don’t be too hard on Kerry....he is paying the ultimate price for having been a giggolo....an ugly domineering drunk for a wife ;-)
Didn’t John Kerry serve in Viet Nam?
These days people have stuff like the Net and many other sources for information (some of it is even non-liberal,
Senator, a fact that I’m sure makes you very upset). People
know what’s going on. As Howard Beale said in Network,
“I don’t have to tell you things are bad. We know things are bad.” And that’s why we’re as mad as hell and we’re not going to take it anymore.
He’s got it bassackwards, as usual. In reality, the stupider you are, the more likely you are to vote democrat.
I think she technically, owns the yacht. I bet the prenup is harsh, so he has no where to go. HAHAHA
You mean like "Hope and Change"? This doofus will never get over himself. Like I said in an earlier post, the only thing he has ever accomplished was marrying rich women. He's only a senator because he grabbed onto Kennedy's coattails. Would just love to see MA kick him out.
Welcome to Massachusetts where the vast majority of office holders are Democrats. Things are bad here—but oh,
no reason to put conservatives/Republicans in. Just let us,
your wonderful Dem lib leaders,
fix it. It’s not our fault, even though we’ve run the state for years, it’s...not...our...fault! Trust us to fix it.
(...must be...BUSH’S FAULT!)
Precisely. If the facts were on their side they would not have to resort to character assassination of their opponents, vote fraud and the constant stream of excuses as to why they are going to get shellacked in November......
I see that goof I think of the movie “Overboard.”
It’s amazing how stupid the voters became in 22 months. In Nov 2008 they elected Obama and an unstoppable Democrat Congress.I’m sure Kerry didn’t say they were uninformed then. Must be another trick of Karl Rove’s or a magic spell from Christine O’Donnell.
Stooopid is as STOOOPID does.
Get bent Kerry...
This election cycle signals not a dullness on the part of the people, but a historic awakening. People have been half-asleep regarding the shenanigans in DC, but now are alert and motivated.
The question is, can this awakening last for years to come in order to truly affect the direction of the fat beast that is the federal government?
He’s a complete phony beginning with his very name. What irony that he pretends to be American “royalty”.
Perhaps if Mr Ketchup and his Donkey pals wouldn’t run around spending taxpayer monkey in a fashion reminiscent of a drunken Genghis Khan, the “dumb, uninformed voters” wouldn’t be quite as upset.
Clinton: “I still believe in a place called Hope”
Kerry, 2004 (signs): “HOPE IS ON THE WAY” (photoshopped by someone to DOPE IS ON THE WAY after it was said some
people registered under fake names and were rewarded with drugs; later changed to Help Is On The Way
Obama 08: “Hope and Change” (Obama also borrowed part of the slogan of his pal Deval Patrick: Together We Can became
Yes We Can)
