When facing a tsunami, what do you do? Pray, and tell yourself stories. I am not privy to the Democrats' private prayers, but I do hear the stories they're telling themselves. The new meme is that there's a civil war raging in the Republican Party. The Tea Party will wreck it from within and prove to be the Democrats' salvation.
I don't blame anyone for seeking a deus ex machina when about to be swept out to sea. But this salvation du jour is flimsier than most.
In fact, the big political story of the year is the contrary: that a spontaneous and quite anarchic movement with no recognized leadership or discernible organization has been merged with such relative ease into the Republican Party.
The Tea Party could have become Perot '92, an anti-government movement that spurned the Republicans, went third-party and cost George H.W. Bush reelection, ending 12 years of Republican rule. Had the Tea Party gone that route, it would have drained the Republican Party of its most mobilized supporters and deprived Republicans of the sweeping victory that awaits them on Nov. 2.
Instead, it planted its flag within the party and, with its remarkable energy, created the enthusiasm gap. Such gaps are measurable. This one is a chasm. This year's turnout for the Democratic primaries (as a percentage of eligible voters) was the lowest ever recorded. Republican turnout was the highest since 1970.
True, Christine O'Donnell's nomination in Delaware may cost the Republicans an otherwise safe seat (and possibly control of the Senate), and Sharron Angle in Nevada is running only neck-and-neck with an unpopular Harry Reid. On balance, however, the Tea Party contribution is a large net plus, with its support for such strong candidates as Marco Rubio of Florida, Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania, Joe Miller...

The tea parties are the dog, the GOP Establishment is the tail. The GOP Media Establishment would be wise to remember that.
Sorry that assumption on your part is completely unprovable. Consider this, what happens to your candidate in NV if they do NOT have the enthusiastic energetic support of the Tea Party and its ability to raise money? A case can be made that your candidate would be broke and 15 points behind Reid instead of tied as Angle is.
So let them howl and screech. They aren't scaring anyone, as the public waits quietly for November and a chance to set things back to normal in America
Rove Kruthammer et al are every bit as much our enemies as the Progressive Leftists.
Wishful thinking. Shooting your own in the back in the midst of war is not a forgive and forget type of misdemeanor. The problem Rove, Krauthammer et all have is they still think of this as just a game where everyone shakes hand at the end. That not the case anymore. Anyone who is actively propagandizing for the Democrats like Rove et al have been is going to be held accountable long after Nov. by the Conservative movement

With the state of the Nevada economy she is tied with Reid? A better candidate kicks Harry in the crotch again and again and makes him scream.
And I said NOTHING about the Tea Party. They backed better candidates in other races the results were telling.

By the way, when columnists and reporters submit columns and stories, some headline writer makes up the headline. So around the nation, Krauthammer's columns could have any number of different headlines among the newspapers that syndicate him.
Here are some more quotes from the article:

Clearly, Krauthammer hasn't the faintest clue what the Second Amendment is all about. Crime fighting, target shooting, hunting, and gun collecting have nothing to do with it - - it's about removing a government that gets abusive and tyrannical. The Second Amendment - - the amendment that protects itself (as well as the rest of the Constitution).

Regarding Rove, his statements are more damaging since he, unlike Krauthammer, has obligations with the Republican party.

He was predictably pessimistic about O’Donnell’s victory. He was not at all outraged like Rove.

No. Charles Krauthammer is as much anti-gun today as he was fifteen years ago. He has said on many occasions that the citizenry should and must be disarmed.
Yep, what a shame...It does rank him with the elitist who believe we the people are a bunch of stupid idiots for desiring to exercise our individual, moral and unalienable right to keep and bear arms...
Anyone who doesn’t understand the basics of this Amendment, I have absolutely no use for...
And if the day ever comes that they feel it is necessary to remove this right from us, people like this will never, ever be that unhappy again...
It is unfortunate that we are surrounded on all sides (politically) on this issue...
But when surrounded, that just means we can fight back in all directions...
Let the Rats control the Senate for another two years....

In an election year you expect Washington to be full of phony arguments. But even a cynic must marvel at the all-round phoniness of the debate over repeal of the assault weapons ban. Both sides are blowing smoke.
The claim of the advocates that banning these 19 types of "assault weapons" will reduce the crime rate is laughable. (The term itself is priceless: What are all the other guns in America's home arsenal? Encounter weapons? Crime-en\abling devices?) Dozens of other weapons, the functional equivalent of these "assault weapons," were left off the list and are perfect substitutes for anyone bent on mayhem.
In fact, the assault weapons ban will have no significant effect either on the crime rate or on personal security. Nonetheless, it is a good idea, though for reasons its proponents dare not enunciate. I am not up for reelection. So let me elaborate the real logic of the ban:
