URBANA — In a move that hasn’t happened for years, University of Illinois Board of Trustees voted to deny a professor emeritus status Thursday.

Chairman Chris Kennedy of Chicago, son of the late Sen. Robert F. Kennedy, said he would not vote for emeritus status for University of Illinois at Chicago Professor William Ayers.

The rest of the trustees agreed to vote no, without discussion.

I wonder how long it took before Ayers called the white house to complain.

The “Beck Effect”.

You can bet this would have been on his show the day it happened. Lots of potential for controversy.

We’re winning.

“I intend to vote against conferring the honorific title of our university to a man whose body of work includes a book dedicated in part to the man who murdered my father, Robert F. Kennedy. There can be no place in a democracy to celebrate political assassinations or to honor those who do so.”

I’m sure his BFF BO will have an opening for another czar of some kind for this terrorist. The Founders are rolling over in their graves. This horrible situation is why they warned against having a democracy instead of a republic.

Ah, OK, it’s personal.

If he hadn’t offended a Kennedy he’d probably be Chancellor.

What's Christopher Kennedy point?

It's OK to be a terrorist and praise any other terrorists except for the one who assassinated my father.

Of course, had the matter been left in the hands of the faculty, it’s unlikely Ayers would have been denied this status.

Moreover, this is a bit hypocritical of the trustees. After all, they approved all of Ayers’ previous promotions through the rank of full professor. They essentially are saying that champions of terrorism are perfectly fine as teachers of impressionable UIC undergrads, but once such terrorist-lovers retire (i.e., presumably no longer teach), we don’t care to give them a largely meaningless honorific.

Better late than never, I guess. But it would have sent a far stronger signal had the trustees rejected the hiring or promotion of this clown from the get-go. Had they done so, Ayers perhaps may never have been in a position to facilitate the rapid political ascent of Barack Obama, thereby sparing us the misery of the last 2 years.

Weathermen’s Ticking Time Bomb

IMO university employees, the ruling class, high ranking government employees, and media employees are facing growing difficulties protecting Mr. and Mrs. Bill Ayers.

The Ayers may be innocent of murder but I'd like to hear a jury say it.

Why pin medals on a self-declared felon who has always hated this country? The only reason he and his wife have academic jobs is that universities are run by airheads who think they are doing a good deed by giving every idiot a forum. We and our children wind up paying for mis-education at the hands of radical polemicists.

I think the personal aspect temporarily lifted the liberal blinders on this Kennedy, allowing him to see the truth for a little while.
