AP Poll: Dems Disliked, But GOP Just As Bad

WASHINGTON -- If anyone is as scorned as much as Democrats these days, it's Republicans - the very party that may recapture the House and perhaps the Senate in November's elections.

Yet Democrats face a problem, even as they try exploiting GOP unpopularity by warning against letting them run Congress. People who dislike Democrats seem ready to vote in greater numbers than those with little use for Republicans.

In an Associated Press-GfK Poll this month, 60 percent disapprove of the job congressional Democrats are doing - yet 68 percent frown on how Republicans are performing. While 59 percent are unhappy with how Democrats are handling the economy, 64 percent are upset by the GOP's work on the country's top issue. Just over half have unfavorable views of each party.

Most say President Barack Obama isn't cooperating enough on the economy; yet even more accuse Republicans of the same thing. Former President George W. Bush and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin - the only two Republicans the AP-GfK Poll tested - are both viewed negatively by more than half in the survey, worse than Obama's marks. And people overwhelmingly fault Bush more than Obama for the recession.

AP needs bigger buckets to carry for the Dem's now, I would love to see how this poll was conducted.

What they don’t take into account is that most Tea Party type voters agree with this premise. They hate the establishment GOP as much Dem. But will not vote Dem.

They don’t because the results terrify them.

exactly, once you can’t fix up and repair your vehicle, get rid of it and get a new one ... can’t just keep changing parts

If anyone is as scorned as much as Democrats these days, it's Republicans

And the obivous message? Voters are largely sick of self-serving political hacks, no matter what party they are from - witness Murkowski and Castle. In a way, that is what did Hayworth in - he had his own history of such and did not offer a fresh-faced alternative to McCain.

And the object lesson to Republicans if they regain control of the House and/or Senate - if you go back to your old ways, you will be out in the next election. Start addressing real concerns instead of putting your own power and privilege first.

In 2008, the GOP proved it was more willing to carry the flag of mccain and romney before Sarah Palin. Now in 2010, we see the likes of michael steele leading the pack with leaders attacking Tea party members as much as democrats. The GOP is a RINO preserve and the most recent overtures are a last minute conversion.

Welcome aboard, General Arnold! Oh, please stand right here...in front of me...

Stick to your guns, folks. Donate directly, bypass the RNC, support conservatives.

Eventually we will overcome!

I have noticed a few newer posters around here that claim to be Tea party people. They may or may not be, but they post on pro life threads that they do not care about abortion because the tea parties aren’t about that.

This is a Pro Life site.

just thought I would mention that

I brought it up because the GOP is not as bad as the democrats. I don’t care what Tea Party you go to. The MSM wants to depress the vote on our side.

I hate the GOP too but for 2010 our mission is to ‘stop Obama’

I love the way this “independent journalist” spins this poll.

First, it looks like this writer used the “all adults” data: “Sept. 8-13 and involved landline and cell phone interviews with 1,000 randomly chosen adults. The margin of sampling error was plus or minus 4.2 percentage points.”

Here are some points from another site with the exact same poll (it is comparing to a Feb 2, 2010 poll from the same firm:

“_Democrats had a 49 percent to 37 percent advantage over Republicans on the party that voters want to see control Congress [Feb poll]; the GOP now enjoys a 55-39 lead among likely voters [Sept poll].

Republicans have steadily gained ground on economic issues and now have a slight advantage on handling the economy, the federal deficit and taxes. They improved their standing in the past month even as Obama stepped up his efforts to persuade the public to give Democratic solutions more time to work.”

The poll is bogus in many respects. This is once again just a case of the MSM spinning the bad predicament the dems face into a “they’re just as bad as we are so why not vote for us again!” It won’t work this time and we have to make 100% sure we are doing everything we can to make sure it doesn’t.

Most conservatives would fault the GOP lawmakers for not being conservative enough, but they would NEVER vote for the Democrats. That is why this AP ad for the Dems is misleading.

Democrats are hated for living up to their principles. Republicans are hated for NOT living up to their principles.

Huh? Parts are way cheaper than payments. Eventually you'll fix all its problems.

Just to clarify perhaps, the Tea Party is about returning to a smaller, responsive, responsible republican (the form of govt, not the Party) Federal government. The Tea Party movement was not formed to fight pro-abortion forces per se, but there is little or no line of demarcation that needs to be drawn.

Being anti-abortion is a social and moral issue, whereas Tea Party actions are more secular and civil in nature, BUT both have a foundation in rights and rules established by our Creator.

I wouldn’t worry that folks here don’t immediately declare for ALL conservative principles.

I'm a tea partier. I was at the very first tea party gatherings back on tax day, what was that, 2009? I don't see abortion as a tea party issue. Taxes Enough Already. TEA party. Seems to me the trigger was insane spending and debt--TARP, porkulus, Obamacare. National overreach.

Abortion is a conservative issue. I don't think anyone denies that. But it's tangential, imo, to what the TEA party protests were and are about.

unless of course you own a British Leyland chassis with a Morris Garage or Triumph drive train and Lucas electronics ...

The parts drain exceeded my payment schedule.
