Yet a prosecutor says that "the jail offers Muslims meals without pork and allows them to pray together and perform ritual cleansing." So possibly this is an attempt to gain special status and special privileges for Muslim inmates in this jail.

TACOMA, Wash. -- Two Muslim inmates from the Pierce County Jail in Tacoma are suing, claiming they are banned from practicing their religion.

The lawsuit was filed this week with the help of the ACLU and Public Interest Law Group in federal court in Tacoma.

The News Tribune reports that inmates Raymond Wesley Garland and Larry Edward Tarrer say the jail prohibits Muslims from group prayer, bans certain religious clothing and refuses to accommodate their diet.

You're in jail. When in jail, you should not expect special accommodation of your demands.

A deputy prosecutor who represents the jail, Craig Adams, disputes the claims. He says the jail offers Muslims meals without pork and allows them to pray together and perform ritual cleansing.

It is hard to imagine that anyone who has not been immersed since birth in Islam could actually believe in all their craziness but people will PRETEND to believe in all sorts of things if it suits their purpose to do so. Even among those who call themselves Christians a sizable percentage simply claim the name because they benefit in some way by doing so.

I suspect that the incidence of pretended belief in Islam far exceeds what is observable among Christians and that is high enough. There must be a high percentage in Islam who would love to walk away from all of it but fear for their lives if they do.

It is a pen name for a psychiatrist who worked in the British prison system until he retired recently. He had a lot of experience dealing with Muslim prisoners over there. Among other things, he said the Muslim youth there lived lives just like other British hooligans and did not practice their faith at all unless it enabled them to get special privileges or avoid hearings because of holidays and such. In other words, they were foul-weather or opportunistic practitioners of Islam and ate, drank and fornicated with the best of the regular British youth of their generation at all other times.

I doubt whether it is all that different here.

The answer is dead simple. Allow them to wear their skullcaps. Or, to be sure they are correctly identified, stitch a crescent moon on their uniforms.

THEN cut all meat from ALL meals and tell everyone it's to accomodate the Muslims.

End of problem. 

Sounds good, and perhaps add baseball leagues to the prison exercise regimen.  Of course you'd have to specify aluminum bats because the wooden ones might leave a splinter in a player's hand.

As with any physical sport, accidents do happen with baseball of course and it's such a shame that the muslim inmates seem to be having the most accidents, particularly involving bats contacting their heads.  They really need to be more careful when they play.
