Democrats put off votes to extend Bush tax cuts until after election By Alexander Bolton and Russell Berman - 09/23/10 06:49 PM ET
A rift between centrist and liberal Democrats in both chambers of Congress has derailed plans for House and Senate votes on extending tax cuts before the election.
Senior Senate Democrats said they plan to leave Washington by the end of next week without voting on an extension of the George W. Bush-era tax rates, which are set to expire at the end of the year.
A spokesman for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) announced the decision in a statement that blamed Republicans for holding up tax cuts for the middle class in order to prevent a tax hike on wealthier taxpayers.
Democrats will not allow families in Nevada and across the country to suffer or be held hostage by Republicans who would rather give tax giveaways to millionaires and corporations that ship jobs overseas, said Jim Manley, the spokesman for Reid.
We will come back in November and stay in session as long as it takes to get this done.

HOPEfully after November there will be a CHANGE in Washington as to how things are done.
That is Hope and Change worth waiting for.
They can run but they can not hide.
Gee....I wonder what they are up to????
America Held Hostage.
Don’t you love the term “tax giveaways” as though this is the government’s money and the taxpayers are not playing by the rules when they feel they have the right to keep more of it in their own pockets.
Cowards!
We have the history of "tax cuts for the rich" leading to booming economies!! How come no one but Sarah Palin will speak out against these Marxists?
They just signed their own death warrants.
Because they are all in it together.
Screw us and help themselves (and their friends) to power and money.
When a Democrat says “the rich”, he wants the folks to think “George Soros” when he really means “people who work hard”. Back in the 1920’s, the Bolsheviks called those people “kulaks” and “wreckers” and exterminated them. People who work hard, go without to plow everything back into their business, provide jobs for others, enrich the society around them. Those people need to be punished and gotten rid of, so the Party of Government can run and control all the others.
The Republican Senate and House can take care of business in January.
Just take some time off, 'rats.
So, in other words, they'll just HAVE to have that lame-duck session in which they'll pass cap-and-tax, amnesty for illegals, and the rest of the socialist agenda that they haven't been able to get done the past two years.
I can't wait to cast my ballot. I'll run through fire if I have to in order to do it.
Come Nov. the lame duck congress will punish the stupid voters who voted the Rats out of the majority by allowing the tax cuts to expire without a vote. Thus it becomes a republican proplem and any new tax cut bill will be vetoed by the Zero because of the massive national debt. Pretty nifty politicking.
Exactly, not giving tax cuts to the producers, small businesses, “the rich”, is nothing more or less than an all out attack on free market capitalism. Which is what the obama regime is all about any way.
If the Dims cannot incite class warfare, racial divide, and social unrest under any pretense they are unhappy.
Hopefully .. fixed it
Most of the 3% that the Dems call “the rich” are actually just above the $250,000 mark and middle-class. I would like to see the Republicans propose a 10% tax per year on wealth over $10 million dollars. Then watch the Dems scream because that would actually affect the Hollywood Left, Michael Moore, Oliver Stone, Kerry, Obama, Gates, etc.
After the election, there will be on incentive to vote for a tax cut.
Dems 0, Us 1
