On the Record host Greta Van Susteren just posted to GretaWire, saying that she canceled an interview with veteran journalist Bob Woodward, who was scheduled to speak about his new book, Obamas Wars.
Why?
I just cancelled a Bob Woodward new book interview because the publisher wont get me a copy to READ BEFORE I do the interview. ON THE RECORD at ten is not the Home Shopping Channel I actually read the books before I do the interview out of respect for the viewers Her decision is understandable, with many television hosts wanting to be informed about a book before interviewing the author.
While the book has been a regular subject on the cable news channels over the last few days, those discussions have focused on excerpts that appeared in the New York Times and USA Today, rather than from the book itself. In other words, as of this morning, it does not appear that any of the cable news channels have a review copy of the book.
That would not be unusual for Woodward, who often does not reveal that he has even been working on a book until just a few weeks before it is slated to be published. But why stiff Van Susteren and the other cable channels?
That may have something to do with the fact that Woodward has given ABC News the first TV interview about Obamas Wars. Woodward will sit down with Diane Sawyer September 27, the same day his book is released.
Good for her, instead of just taking the Obama white house pushing talks
Woodward can go pimp his puff piece on the commie networks.
It was stupid to not get Greta a book.
The Home Shopping Channel is not amused...
NBC turned him down too, only because the book doesnt’ fit the “All Praise Obama” template.
All she need do is grill Woodward on the comment Bammie made to him about how America could “absorb” another muzzie attack.
That’s all anyone wants to know about. The rest of the book is... “who cares?”
She shoulda done the interview. Just based on that.
It’s not as if this is a bill affecting 1/6 of the economy.
Good Grief!
This would basically mean that Woodward could have a one-sided plug for his work, wherein he could say just about anything he wanted while the host could only nod.
That is ridiculous. I guess ABC demanded this exclusivity and Woodward needed the money they were paying. But that doesn’t mean anyone else has to play.
I don’t think Woodward is so hot that he can expect the cable networks to pander to him quite that hard.
I thought some other hosts on FOX already had the book...????
The publishing of a book about how a sitting President is conducting a war while that war is on-going is troubling to me - and no doubt of great interest to The Taliban and Al-Qaeda.
Greta Van Scientologist goofed. You mean Fox News or Greta didn’t have the money to shell out for the book?
Last time I tried to read anything by him was the John Belushi biography when I was a kid. I gave up a fifth of the way in. His prose is unreadable.
I much preferred the Berke Breathed Bloom County spoof: “Frazzled: The Life and Fast Times of Bill the Cat”.
Thats all anyone wants to know about. The rest of the book is... who cares?
She shoulda done the interview. Just based on that.
She can still bring that up without doing the interview and giving Woodward a chance to sugar coat it.
Three cheers for Greta. She has showns journalistic integrity. Woodward and his publisher do not. They want interviewers who can’t possibly ask thougtful questions about their book. No doubt the book must stink from an intellectual point of view.
I guess the Fox News bathrooms will be stocked with Charmin as usual.
The book is not yet for sale.
The publisher did not issue an advance copy as is usual.
Greta wasn't going to “Home Shopping Network” his book for him, she wanted to talk to him ABOUT the book, which would be difficult if she had not read it.
Greta is a Scientologist?
“The book is not yet for sale.
The publisher did not issue an advance copy as is usual.”
Exactly. Way to many kneejerk reactions on FR lately.
Hey, can Greta also cancel Woodward’s propaganda book???
